Who has done a vent kit on the fuel tank on a 2nd gen truck?????

The W's-W's have a single hump, and the ND gens have two humps for expansion. Question is do/would you vent both humps, or just one and leave the smaller of the two for expansion? I've got to drop my tank for the float and think I am going to vent it. Tierd of the slow top off.

you other guys can chime in here to. Give me your oppinion.

I am just wondering if some air space should be left, this could be an other two gallons, I don't believe a total of 42, any cut the waite time. No particular kit. this would involve two taps and a tee.

Well, I got it done [vented] it seamed to fill quicker, still got a little foam, and I vented both humps. Main problem is there is a cross member in front of the rear hump, very difficult to get the hose on to this fitting and clamp it. but this is the bigger hump. My figure for added fuel capacity, maybe 4-5 gals.

The float replacement was and Experiment. Seems to work good but I need to refine adjustment for fuel level. There was a an idea expressed to the coat the stock float with some thing that would protect the float from chaffing on the tank. I have done this also and am going to reinstall this one to see if this works. i also readjusted the wire that holds the float, a little shorter, this may help on chaffing.

what would I do if I didn't have my truck to occupy my time? - - - -[sigh]

I personally would not buy one. If I go slow enough after the click I can fill the tank all the way. (34 gals)

Well I used the idea of the plastic fittings and "T" and conduit washers and nuts secure it to the tank. had to drop it anyway for the float. The cost was less then $5. 00 for the fittings and $4. 50 for the extra hose, I've tried the dribble the fuel thing and not all pumps are created equal. I was thinking that I should take pics while doing this but wanted to get the job done and in. I'm going to pull it down today and replace the float, see what I can do for some pics on the completed thing.

Pics... and keep us up to date... . I want to try this eventually..... I'm always on the road to a truck pull during the Summer and time is miles I could be getting closer! ;)

This is the way I did mine yesterday. I have not fueled up with this set up yet. The T fitting on the filler vent tube was an elboe. That is where my bed tank hooks up.

Check with spooled-up

The kit he sells could easily be adapted to your application. The best part is that with the 1/2" vent line the foaming is not nearly as much of a problem. The kit tees in to the factory vent line just below the filler neck. Its not the increased fuel capacity that I was looking for, but the much quicker fill up to fuel up to the filler neck. The pump clicks off once, you top it off twice, and its full right up the the threads in the filler neck. Do a search under fuel tank vent mod or check out Dave Kelly's add in the classified adds under basement enterprises. Ken Irwin

Pictures of my vent

OK! see if the images come up. This is what mine looks like. Thought that I might have just a few gallons when I dropped the thank but when emptied, I had almost 17 gals in it. So now to top it off, cause I already have 410 miles on the used portion of this tank uncorrected for tire size. I could do 365 and put in 29 gal. pulling my trailer. This portion was mostly with out the trailer, usualy 415 is all I would go solo. More capacity?? how much? Oo. :-laf

I fueled today and I figured that I had about 15 1/2 Gals in the tank and and put in 27. 84, thats a little over 42 gallons, I guess that us 2nd gens can get more capacity.

42 gals would make it so I could make a round trip with out worrying about running out of fuel. I'm going to have to read up on this.

Well I was amazed that I could put this much in. looked like just maybe acouple when looking at the humps.

Update

I filled up today. No leaks. It still foams but not nearly as bad and the foam retreats very quickly. If I slow down the nozzle I can keep ahead of the foam. I filled it up into the filler neck. There was almost 1/4 tank. I added over 34 gallons. If the fuel gauge were linear that would be about eight gallons, but we know that it is not linear so I suppose I had about six, maybe seven, gallons to start with. It is a big improvement over the stock setup.
