On my 1996 2500 SLT, i have noticed that the vents on all positions do not blow hard at all. On the first 3 settings i can barely feel it. Does this truck come with a cabin filter that might be plugged? Is this normal or should i be looking at putting a new fan motor in?

My '94 is like this... the '98 seems a lot better.

When running the A/C - the '94 used to freeze up the evaporator coil and that would block 70% of the airflow... I had to roll the windows down and blast the heat (while still running the A/C... ) to melt the ice and repeat the process every few hours.

My old VW New Beetle used to freeze up as well... I was able to help reduce the issue by increasing the fan speed to a higher setting than usual and increasing the temperature a bit more than normal... this definitely reduced the number of times I had to 'de-ice' it... .

blower fan

My '02 seems to put out more air through the vents than my buddy's '98. We've had several '94-'98s in the shop here and they do not seem to flow as much air through the vents. I haven't pulled the blowers to check the fan size, or fin shapes.

On my truck, more air flows on the passenger side than the driver's, but that's OK! Tends to keep the wife's hot flashes under control better since she gets more air flow... Anybody else notice more air flow on the passenger side than the driver's side on their '01-'02?

Boy, can I relate to both of those symptoms. ;)

The driver's vents are puny on my truck, center vents are just okay. The wife gets what she needs though. Her a/c needs are a 30 mph gale with 38* air. My needs or more like just let it blow around me, not on me.

I have noticed though that when on MAX air it blow twice as hard out of the vents than when on outside air.

You may want to drop your blower motor/fan assembly under the glove box and check it for debris. I had a bunch of leaves in my squirrel cage (even though you could not hear them in the fan) and that helped air flow quite a bit.

May be worth a try especially if you park your truck under trees. While you have the fan assembly out you can stick your head under the dash or use an inspection mirror and flashlight to check for dust/dirt on the evaporator coil.

That's excellent advice. HVAC guys have this neat stuff that you spray on the evaporator coil and then just rinse off... it works wonders to get the crap out of it and give you a huge boost in airflow.
