I know this is odd wanting to decrease throttle response, but i recently bought a modified truck and it is pretty hard to drive. Pulling a trailer is pretty much out of the question. You just have to floor it at low rpms or it jumps pretty bad. No driving around easy. Anyway. Its a 1996 with a plate(not sure which one), laser cut DV's, 4000 rpm gsk, cam, modded 40/big brother twins, Valet switch. it has a 2004 6 speed in it with Haisley's street puller twin disc clutch. Its a little better when you flip the Valet and turn it down, but still too touchy. Any ideas on how to fix this without turning anything down?

4k springs are touchy if they are set correctly and in a stick truck are a PIA to drive. You will have to keep playing with them to get them set to your liking or add a stronger return spring..... Andy

I'm not sure, but i think this is a pretty common problem. Even without mods, these trucks can jump a little. I would think about a 3k, its a little more streetable. Also a suggestion while your driving, rest half of your foot on the gas and the other half up against the side of the transmission tunnel

I have been fighting this for years and have yet to find a solution. The 3 k GSK is much better than the 4 but does not fix the problem. I have some very heavy springs on the throttle but all that does is make my leg hurt. The problem progressed as the power was increased over the years and there is no turning back now, I have thought about turning the power down but my brain won't let me do it !!! LOL

Keep us posted ona fix if you find one.

Yea, i'm kinda debating on switching the 6 speed out for a built automatic. I definately can't detune the truck. I have the same problem with my brain. It won't let me do it. I was actually thinking of adding water/meth injection. But I've just never felt comfortable with the automatics. I always feel like their gonna tear up at any time.

There is actually a TSB out on this for 5spd 2-gen dodges - I cannot seem to find it with a search though. The gist of it was that they replaced the throttle cable and return springs to stop the truck from "bucking".

In my case, I could see the transmission/transfer case move forward and right about 1" during hard acceleration. It changes the length of the throttle cable when the engine moves away from the firewall, so letting off would set the truck bucking. Something tuned up with less turbo lag is really going to exaggerate this (good throttle response). The motor mount donuts and the transmission mount on the crossmember might be worn enough where you might have some movement.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me - but a single spring from Home Depot, hooked to the linkage to make the return stiffer - all but solved my problem for about $3.

good luck,
jon

I don't remember the tsb number but I had it done on my 1996 for the same reason under warranty when it had about 16000 miles on it. They changed out the throttle control rod assembly. (the # on the invoice of the throttle control rod is 14043005) The new one takes more pedal movement for the same throttle response. I still have the truck and use it to pull a heavy fifth wheel and it has never bucked since the rod was changed.

I tried the TSB which is a whole new throttle assy meaning everthing bolted to the side of the pump. It changes the ratio and added another spring which helped but did not cure the problem. I know have even heavier springs and all that did is make my right leg hurt. LOL
