Anyone tried one of these? Why did Dodge not follow with a VG turbo like Ford and Chevy. I know the I6 is a slow grunt puller but their medium duty ISBE motors have them. I think it would definitely change the torque and power ratings as far as how quick the power comes in. Plus the holset seems to be a trouble free design. I would love to have a hx40 with the VG setup. That would have great low end performance with plenty of high end HP. Any Ideas? Oo.

Twest I am aware of the hybrid Garret turbo which banks is working on. If I wanted to convert the turbo from a power stroke I would have asked a local turbo shot to throw something together like Banks is. No way would I have a garret VGT on my Cummins. Id much rather have a proven reliable product as the holset on my new truck. Not bashing you for selling their product but I am in no way enthused by Banks over pricing highly advertised products. The only thing that I would even consider is his Technicooler. Since holset already makes a VGT for cummins ISBE motors I was asking if anyone has tried one on their Ram. I am very curious of how much trouble and money it would be to install one and how well it works. Oo.

Just an uneducated guess but I bet all diesel pickups will eventually be some kind of vgt twins setup, yeah we'll have to pay $$ for it, but the upside is outstanding.

That will be in about 5 years when a new truck costs 75 grand without leather, and 85 with! :--)

Heck, my 93 350 4x4 had every option available and it was on 23K new!

i too dream/drool over the thought of a vgt/vnt turbo under my hood... i think with a good fueling box, you would have enough to spool up one of these... . it is a pretty common charger now with them in use with the egr equipped S60 ddc engines... and that looks like it would bolt nicely to a large frame ats 2nd gen manifold... would just need to figure out the way to control it [ecm pin out for throttle % (to make it work with cruise on) and map sensor piggyback feeding info to a PWM controlled air solenoid (like that command gate on the 600 engines)???]

I think Banks is just fine tuning there turbo at this time. I saw them install one on the SPIKE TV show ext 4x4 a few months ago. They installed the Banks 4" exhaust, six gun with speed loader/turbo controller, high ram intake along with the banks innercooler. I think that was everything. Anyway the truck was said to produce 500HP and 1000 ftlb TQ. They showed several close ups of the new VG turbo they did say the fit was really tight, tight is good for me as long as it works. .

I like the ATS design. Very simple, not much to go wrong. It is controlled mechanically by a spring. I'm guessing it's able to be tuned to your liking.

The only bummer is that the housings are custom cast, hence a huge price tag. The ATS turbo is going to be $3k or so. More than a good single, less than twins (except Arctic Air, which use your stock turbo on top).

is that number from banks at the wheels or flywheel? I know a lot of you guys dont like banks but i do. Have had it on 2 of my trucks now and been impressed, but with 500 HP available from banks i would be even happier :)

I have also wanted to bolt a VGT from the ISB. Every one I spoken too at GEN-POWER said it will not work on the E version without electronics to support it. also some fabrication would be necessary.

Do you have a source for a reasonablly priced VVT turbo from the ISB? I am pretty sure I can handle the electronics side of things.

I Wish I did,The Holset VGT now is a cummins only part, even the Authorized Bosch and Holset distributors Don"t have Them, My connections at Gen Power are nice but are limited. . I have a terrible Lag in My personal truck with the modifications made to it,I have ordered a SPS62 until Banks Has their VGT ready,The Banks Inter-cooler is so efficient that the Stock charger cannot pressurize it fast enough, all I have LOTS of air with no BOOST. The Banks inter-cooler will drop EGT"S,But with stock charger it will increase the Lag regardless of How much fuel you inject.
