Vibration 3rd Gen

I have a vibration that comes on between 75-80mph. It feels

like it is in the drive train. I can feel it through the steering wheel and seat.



This is a 2003, 2500, 4X4 , 4-door long box, 48RE trans, 305HP DSL 3. 73



They have balanced and straightened the rear drive line and replaced the front drive line.



The dealer says Dodge won't go any further.



Has anyone experienced a similar vibration and found a solution.

Do a search brother. There's more griping about that than you can read in a weekend. :-{}

I don't have vibration issues but I wish my rear diff would only howl at 75-80, that way I would never hear it. Never drive over 70 usually!

Power Steering hose fixed mine

I didn't even bother replacing the power steering hose, just zip tied the two hoses together with a heavy duty zip tie. no more vibration. I don't know if your vibration is the same as mine. My truck just had a slight vibe I could feel in the steering wheel. It made the tilt lever buzz.

Roper I thought the dealer took care of the diff???

DPelletier, I have been thinking about doing the zip tie thing as well. Glad to hear it seems to work. Seems a lot simpler than taking the truck to the dealer for the hose swap and having them screw up something else. Did you worry about the zip tie eating its way through the hoses with all the vibration? I was thinking about somehow padding the zip tie.

power steering update fixed mine too, WOW what a dif it made, went threw all the balancing and drive train swap, but the weight on the hose fixed it. mine was alittle worse with the AC on.

Its a differant hose and a added weight. Got two friends that SWORE theirs didn't have noise vibration . Both autos with 3. 73 gears. Both had hose done at my SUGGESTION and both said WELL DARN I didn't know this truck was that SMOOTH. They thought it was normal DIESEL feel.

Power Steering

How do I get the power steering hose. My Dealer says that there is not a SB for that. I i need to I will buy my own and replace it. Just need the PN.

I had the power steering hose replaced but still have the in and out thrumming noise at 70. I don't drive at that speed very often but the noise is there when I do. Anybody else have suggestions?



My truck is an 03 double cab, short box, automatic, SLT, 4 wheel drive with 3. 73 rear end.

That "in and out thrumming noise " is a Drown from the exhaust, change the muffler. Any flavor will do, some have had luck with the "Aero Turbine" I personally have a Donaldson and it took out the Drown I did not know I had till after I changed it.

This is what I have and I am going to be taking the exhaust hanger that's mounted to the transmission off and see if that clears it up.



I am beginning to think that these trucks are having different vibration issues. What works for one truck isn't necessarily the fix for others.

I'm wondering if what I hear at 70 drone/Whine wise is not the rear end after all but from the Exaust!!!!

Sorry for the late reply, but no I didn't worry about the zip tie wearing through the ps hoses. Its really tight so there shouldn't be any movement that would create chaffing. Personally, I think all the ps hoses should have been done through a recall. I didn't think my truck had any vibration, but I noticed after the zip tie thing that my tilt lever stopped buzzing and the steering wheel felt better. I would have taken the truck in and got the new hose, but I do my own service and I didn't feel like having the whole discussion with the dealer. Seems to work fine.

Dave, Thanks for the response. I also do my own service, plus I am my own "warranty station", so I also just don't want the dealer hassle. I haven't gone out to look under the hood, but I wonder if it would be better to tie the hoses to surrounding "fixed points" as opposed to each other??? Roger

I dunno, you could try that, but I don't think its a problem to tie them together and I know it works.
