Does anyone know the most likely cause of a vibration that appears between 65 and 70 mph? For a while I thought maybe it was the transmission, but now I think it's something else. Could out of balance tires cause this type of vibration? Could a problem in the steering manifest itself as a vibration.

Thanks,

Travis

I would check the tires first. If the wheels/tires are balanced correctly, I may start looking at the driveline for the vibration. Is it a heavy vibration through the steering wheel, or is it a high frequency vibration through the chassis (and your butt)?

vibrations

I can feel the vibrations in the wheel, and things like the passenger seat which shakes quite a bit. I don't notice it until I get up to 65 or so.

Tires... no doubt in my mind.

I went and had mine re-balanced and rotated them and my vibration got WORSE! Mine was from 62-72 MPH only. Only related to speed, not RPM. I finally got a different set of Michelins and now my vibration is gone. No doubt it was my Wild Country TXR's, and more than likely it was caused by some wires moving from rotating the tires.

If the vibration just showed up and you did not do anything to your tires, check the center U-Joint and the support. Check the rest of the U-Joints as well.

Due to size of my tires I have to have them Roadforce balanced or they do crazy things at speeds over 60. Only cost about $50 but, made all the difference for me. JMHO

What is roadforce balancing and how is it different?

This is pretty cool as it shows a demo and allows you to search for a shop that has this equipment close to you based on your zip code. IMHO it's worth every penny.

It will at least rule out tire/wheel problems for around $50 bucks. This service is a one time deal - meaning there's no warranty - you definitely get what you pay for though.

Good luck.
