Vibration in 6spd shift lever

Picked up new truck on Friday. Runs great. However, there seems to be a vibration (aka rattle) that is reduced by applying pressure to the shift lever. Anyone experienced this? Is this normal, ie do I have to learn to live with it? Also, the diesel noise of the new truck seems louder than my 98 (not complaining, I love it). Could be I don't remember how loud the 98 was before it was broken in.

My 6 speed doesn't rattle but one thing I found when mine was new was the top plate on the transmission that holds the shifter in place was not tight and was weeping lube down the sides of the transmission. I removed the boot and the rear bolts each took a full turn before they began to snug. You may check to see if your's is doing the same. Other than that there is no unusual vibration in the shifter. You are right about the noise. My 01 is noticeably louder than my 98 was. But it's more powerful so I'll live with it. #ad
It's a PITA to have to go behind assembly workers that have access to all these things in the wide open spaces of the line.

Took the new truck into dealer today. Tech drover truck 1/2 block, said he knew what the noise was. We went back to the dealer and in 20 minutes they tightened nut on shift lever and noise is gone. Now I really love the truck!

Be sure to keep an eye on the transmission for weeping out of the top of transmission. You'll know it when you see it. That lube really takes the "rust ambiance" off the transmission. Glad you got your problem fixed.
