Today we received our first show in AK, and I put the truck in 4WD for the first time in months only to find some serious vibrations when accelerating. Looked at the front drive shaft and found the smallest wiggle at the joints attached to the case, the forward yoke was solid. Is this an indication of a bad joint? If the driveshaft is always spinning even in 2WD would I not still feel the vibration if it was bad or is this something that would only be noticed when power is applied to the front axle? Any help would be great thanks in advance!

My 1996 Ram was vibrating on me last winter when in 4x4. I ended up having Certified Powertrain rebuild the front shaft CV joint and replaced the two u-joints and fixed the problem. It cost just under $200.

If it was my front U-joints would it shake the steering wheel? Reason I ask is that it seems to come from the floor more than the wheel. Lord I hope it is not the front axle u-joints.

If it was your axle shaft joints, I think you would be notice some binding during turns in 2wd. I was getting the vibration thru the floor and not the steering wheel.

Took the driveshaft to youngs gear and driveline and they noticed a "dry bearing" and sure as s**t I saw it with my own eyes, huge amounts of play. Dropped it off at 1130 and was ready at 1400. Installed and ops ck good. Guys at Youngs do a real quality product and super fast.
