2005 3500 SRW Quad cab 8 ft bed, stock - 44,000 miles orig. owner



Noticed a vibration on acceleration and a clicking noise going from reverse to forward and forward to reverse. I suspect a universal joint gone bad. Sounds strange to me because of the low mileage. A bad back prevents me from crawling under and checking it. Had a 1997 2500 with 150,000 miles and never had a problem with universal joints. Any thoughts on this problem would really help, before I walk into a dealer repair. Thanks.

if it clicks going from r to d or d to r i would say it is definately a u joint

It'll be a u-joint. That's about all the mileage you can get out of these newer joints.

Thanks for confirming a bad U joint is causing the vibration. One more question, What do you think a dealer would charge for installing a new u joint incl. price of part? Just want my guns loaded before I walk into a dealer repair shop. Thanks

If one is bad, the others are close behind, replace all of them with greaseable units. Should be Spicer part # 5-188x or Neapco 3-0188... same part!

dealer replaced u joints . still under warranty 100$ deductable
