Vibration

My truck vibrates generally from 60 to 80 mph, sometimes other speeds. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes it does some times it doesn't. I have Michelin tires that have been road force balanced and no real help. I haven't had the drive shaft or u-joints looked at yet, but that is my next step. It is REALLY irritating because sometimes it rides fine and sometimes it drives me nuts! I know many people seem to have this problem, but there never seems to be a definite resolution. What say you.

How many miles? I believe there hasn't been big changes to the rear shaft in years, so I'll tell my story.

I started having a hi speed buzz at those speeds that got a bit worse over a month. At the time my work parking space was next to a long tall wall that I would put my right side close against. One day while experiencing the buzz, I backed in with windows down and I heard it. SQUEAK-SQUEAK. the death call of the U joint. I put greasable precisions in about 40k ago. Done.

The first thing to do is to determine the relative frequency of the vibration. Depending on your axle ratio, a driveline vibration will have 3.5-4X the frequency of OOB tires.

also start keeping detailed records of conditions when it happens: towing/not? uphill/downhill/flat? what gear? etc
Change gears while maintaining the same speed - is it engine speed related or road speed related? Does it change depending on the road surface? What did you do just before it started? Good luck tracking it down, they can be a bummer.

I thought I had vibration issues also and realized that it varied based on what road I was one. Certain highways and this truck don't seem to get along.

I have the same issue on different roads.

You've got to be kidding!!! All the reading I've done about this, all the people that have this problem, it's finally resolved, and you don't know what they did! I'm sorry, but I'm really about to lose it. Please, please, you've have got to find out what they did and let everyone know.
