Well, 25,000 miles and a year and a half later I'm still dealing with the same old 70mph vibration problems. My local dealer has done everything in the book including replacing the entire transmission and motor mounts along with drive shafts etc.

Anyone in here ever invoke the lemmon law for this situation?

I'm going to try a different dealer in Tucson even though it's an hour drive for me. I like the truck but the vibrations are driving me nuts.

Have you tried phasing the driveshaft? That involves measuring pinon angles carefully at the transmission output and at the rear axle input. One member couldn't get any resolution to his problem through the dealer and took matters into his own hands. He measured the angles and found them to be off, so he got some wedge-shape spacers and put them between his axle pads and leaf springs and Wallah! smooth as silk.

Lemme go see if I can dig up that thread (from a long time ago).

Contact Greg Boardman at DRC http://desertracingconcepts.net/ If anyone know Death Wobble fixes him and KORE can get it right.

What he has isn't death wobble... it is the 70mph vibe... two different things.

I have it too. The cure seems to vary, I replaced the front shaft with no change (had a new shaft double checked by a shaft shop). Some have stated that the engine/transmission combo isn't "straight" between the framerails. Some have stated it is a machining problem of the drive flange on the pinion. And still another had it cured by having the transfercase replaced... my vibrations significantly lessened when I changed the tcase fluid, therefore I feel my transfer case is at fault.

I'm curing mine by installing the DynaTrac Hub kit... no front driveshaft spinning equals no vibrations.

Just a thought, wished i could remember the show i was watching, it was about tires and balancing, some shops have pple coming back because they all of a sudden have vibrations for no reason after buying new tires and then putting several hundred or thousands of miles on them... The fix or recommendation was to have the tires rebalanced after so many miles or if vibration starts, alot of times they said it was because a weight has been lost or could be the tire after getting the new wore off needs to be rebalanced. . Just something to think about, now how much truth their is to it i don't know... but could be much cheaper than replacing parts or even going to a dealer. . I know some are thinking, dam he is nutz, wished i could remember what show that was on so you guys won't think that. . wait i am nutz LMAO.

For some of us, it isn't a tire/wheel balance issue... mine for sure isn't, I've had 4 different sets of tires on, with varying types of balancing. Remove the front driveshaft and my vibes go away. And the vibration is a high speed vibration (at least mine is), definately not tire vibration.

i thought maybe that might help some guys, i see its other issues... I have to say that on my '00 i have almost 117000 miles and haven't had that problem, and i have had my 24valve to 105 and haven't had any vibration from 0-105mph. . Hope you guys get it figured out. Could it be a caliper issue possibly?

The third gens are different from the 2nd gens... your 01 should be the "same" in operation, but we have different axles, different tcase, etc. My 99 was also smooth out to 120mph, but my 04 isn't.

Granted tires can be an issue, but in the third gens a few suffer a dreaded driveline vibration... that, as I stated previously, can have several causes. The only real solution is to keep the front axle from turning.

Good luck. You may want to try the Phoenix area.

The Lemon Law in Arizona is pretty simple. It's basically a "three strikes and you're out" concept for any significant problem that affects driveability and resale value. I don't remember the timeframe, but the earlier and more often you get it into a dealer for the same problem the better. As always, document the visits. I made GM buy one back. They don't like it, but they'll cave if you're persistent and well prepared.

If you're going to JIM CLICK don't hold your breath. They talk real pretty, but they get nothing done. Worst service department I've ever been too, bar none. They have the 5 stars of shame and they're real proud of them.

I didn't read all the posts so this might have been suggested already. It could possibly be a slightly bent axle shaft. The easiest way to check this is to have someone follow behind you and watch both tires. If there is a bit of a wobble it could be a bent axle shaft. It has happened to a couple of my friends in the Jeep clubs I used to belong to. Similar symptoms. No problems until you get to a certain speed then a vibration comes on. I would guess $200 for a new shaft. Since you've checked everything else it might be worth a look.

Those dam vibrations, could be one of the most dificult problems on any vehicle to diagnose and repair. driveline vibrations are almost always caused by an out of balance problem, or angle problem, if there is no damage. I work for chevrolet as a suspension tech and we get A-LOT. we have a EVA (electronic vibration analyzer) Its a pretty cool tool, you can diagnose vibrations through a frequency and g force reading. It will pretty much help pinpoint wich vibration you got. anyway as for a driveline turning 180* can help, if not Ive cured some by whats called system balancing the driveline,

have had the truck in the air and had the truck driving and held a marker to

the driveshaft real lightly, it puts a mark on the high side of the shaft. put some weight to the low side and it can cleared upthe vibration. the other high tech way to do it i with the EVA, and a timing light, mark 4 spots on the driveline and run the truck the light flashes at the spot that is heavy, put the weight 180* from that and it can eliminate it.

the dealer should not tell you that they cannot fix your truck, If there is another on the lot and it doesent vibrate hten yours has a problem. they can fix it, it is a losing battle for the dealer and technician, (Ive lost some sleep over one in duramax). try another dealer, good luck with this one.

05 with 28K+ I have had 'the 70 to 75 vibration' from the get go and last week it started with a severe vibration as tho I was on wash board road. Within a week or 2 it had gotten so bad that if I didn't change speed when it started, ie on cruise, it actually altered my speed! I might add that it was cyclic in that it would come and go if remaing at the same speed. Not unlike a ujoint. I asked at the dealership and they said they have had some ujoints going bad. at 28K? anyway the day I asked I had to put on about 100miles and by the time I got back I just parked it at the dealership as it seemed to be getting to the point of creating more problems then it currently has. That was just before New Years and they havn't had time to get to it yet. Unfortunately the vibration was expected when I got it and I find it annoying at the least!! This is my 5th CTD and I loved'em all!!!!!!!!! This is the best one yet and I am betting on a resolution. The 5 CTD's have all been work trucks, the last one, a 98, has 365K and going to the head office in Reno to be, among other things, a snow plow! I would like to get a MegaCab for the family late this year. I CAN HARLDLY WAIT:)

I just got my truck about 3 weeks ago, 2005, and I also have the vibration around 65MPH. Its not too too bad, just wondering if its even worth getting into with the dealer about this. Does it get worse with time?
