Bike Selling Question

It was 20 years ago this week...

I didn't think the pistons in a gasser went all the way to the top of the cylinder. Learn something new everyday I guess.

When I was in High School Auto Shop about 37 years ago... ... we saw a movie that showed a LARGE side valve (flat head) engine that had some sort of high strength glass head on it. The demo showed how the firing reacted to different ignition timing and what the combustion pattern looked like when the engine "pinged".

Looked to me like that intake valve was leaking slightly at the seat. Maybe it's an illusion, but there seems to be an area of visible flame clustered around the intake valve seat.

Wish they'd have shown all 4 cycles. I'd be interested in what, if any, visible effects of overlap there are (if there was any overlap).

when i was in school, they had a video from toyota showing the diesel engine combustion from below [camera in piston] looked real neat when you see the fuel inject into the cylinder and the delay before the tips of the spray caught fire. not sure how they filmed that though [pyrex plug in piston?]

Michigan State University has a clear cylinder engine, actually a couple, that they take high speed photos of to research the combustion. They never showed us the film, but they did show some stills and that was neat. Unfortunatly they only used gas, no diesel, I asked:-laf
