Vin Decoding

I just tried the Dave Fritz VIN decoding key, only to discover that the 8th character (for the engine) reads "C" on my VIN, but is labeled as "8" for the "5. 9L 6cyl Turbo Diesel. " I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this slight discrepancy?

My rig is the same thing, a "92" with "C" in the 8th position. I checked the decoding for a 94-up models and "C" = diesel. I wonder if someone jumped the gun on change to new format or something??

It could have been an acciental early change, but I think it was more of a typo on the Fritz site, considering he has more to do with the 2nd Gen. trucks than the 1st Gen. Whoever was entering the decoding data might have just assumed that they were the same. That's my guess, anyway.

Nope, my factory 92 manual shows the same thing. 8 = diesel, so it isn't that.

Just had to check out my trucks and my 91 has an "8" for the 8th character, but my 92 does have the "C".
