I agree with Jarsong that your troubles are pointing more in the direction of a hardware problem. I can also tell you that turning off your startup services won't always diagnose a software problem with a particular program. If you uninstall your Norton anti-virus program and reboot, you'll know in a minute or two if that was the problem. If it is not the problem it is simple to reinstall. Then you can concentrate on your hardware compatibility. Just don't underestimate the troubles that anti-virus software can create with other programs. Did you disable the Norton when you installed your 3D cad software and then enable it after you rebooted?

Good Luck, Wayne...

Sorry for my confusing statement above. The CAD software is at work, not at home. It's the home PC I'm having issues with. They pay others to fix the interesting interactions we have with the machines at work. I was mentioning it to illustrate the performance difference of XP.

My PC at home has 3 pieces of Crucial 512mb (1. 5 gig total) DDR PC2700 memory. It recognizes all of it. I have an Intel 2. 4 GHz processor on an MSI motherboard and a Ge Force 5200 graphics card. The motherboard has a built in sound card which is used.

What would be a good diagnostic next step? BTW, it just rebooted a few minutes ago and it "checks the drive for consistancy" (or something like that). It found cross linked files in the temporary internet file folder. It crashed when I hit a "see seller's other items" button on e-bay. The crashes usually coinside with when a program button is pushed. Then the screen goes blank and the monitor gets the restart switch and the relay clicks.

Thanks for your assistance!

Extreme1: I could be wrong but I thought Ram was suppose to be installed in pairs. Like two 512's or four 512's. Are you sure your mother board will work with three 512's? Maybe pull one memory card out and see how things run. Also check to make sure what type of Ram your mother board supports. Mine won't support DDR.
