Is anyone else getting slammed with extra B S in there e mail boxes?? In the last week or so I have gotten tons of e mails with dumb titles and some have had address/names of TDR members or vendors that I know. But I haven't sent them any e mails to get a "re" whatever. This seems to go in streaks this one has lasted about a week so far.

Thanks

Craig

Have you done a complete system scan? There was a virus last year that was getting into e-mail programs like Outlook Express and infecting everyone that was in your contact list. I can't remember the fix or diagnosis but you would be able to find information through either Symantec or McKaffe depending on who your anti-virus service is through.

I have not been getting any of those emails, but recently some crappy spammer finally got into the coporate email servers and swiped all the addresses. Now I get 10 spams a day offering to make changes to my anatomy.

JR2,

You're lucky. I get 30 to 40 per day. Not only telling telling me how to make changes to my anatomy, but all about Paris Hilton, numerous other stars, how to get out of debt, etc. Sometimes I'll get one or two from my co-workers, too, if I'm lucky. :D I've even gotten e-mails with my own return address on it. I work for a gov't IT company. Go figure.

Yeah me too... I figured it was Sled Puller. :D

I fell for the anatomy enhancement gimmick. I stepped on it twice this morning!

The Mydoom virus has been giving people fits. I've received four emails with it today. Interestingly Mcafee simply shuts down the email receive process and I have to delete the offending email through my web based email service from my ISP. As with many of the newer viruses it spoofs email addresses so it's not possible to trace. I've had a number of people contact me to tell me I've sent them the virus - when I know that it didn't come from me. Same thing with Robin. Both of our email addresses are out there on so many peoples machines that they get spoofed all the time. We remind people periodically about this but it never hurts to have another reminder. I had a new customer about 6 months ago that was having problems with their machine and they hadn't updated their virus software in over 2 years. They had 58,000 files on their PC infected with different virus. It was amazing the machine worked at all.

Steve, are there any free downloadable programs that we can use that are good for these viruses? I have the ad-aware and AVG currently but more never hurt. Thanks Don

I don't know of any good free virus scan products out there. I don't know how there could be - with the number of new viruses that come out regularly it's full time work for teams of programmers. I personally prefer Mcafee's products because they've been in the game the longest and their tech support is superior IMO to Norton.

Free anti-virus programs:

AVG

Avast

Avast will scan both Outlook and regular Internet (POP3/SMTP) mail and it also has a memory-resident scanner. I believe that AVG's email scanner only works with Microsoft mail clients: Outlook, Outlook Express, Exchange client etc...
