For all those who have been wanting to know. . . the answer is the 6. 7 damper does NOT fit a 24-valve :{

I just received my damper Friday and first thing popped the stock damper off and laid them side by side. First obvious difference is the 6. 7 damper's pulley is about 20% larger in diameter. Secondly when I went to try and mount it on the end of the crank it interfered with the oil pan rail, leaving it about 1/3" short of bolting down. The back mount side of the damper is also about 1/4" of an inch deeper than the 24v one.

Basically the 24V oil pan has a recess or "notch" if you will where the stock damper spins, and the larger diameter of the 6. 7 one (and because of its tone wheel) it is too big to fit in this recess.

It may be possible by carefully machining off the tone wheel and grinding on the edge of the oil pan you could get it to fit, but you still have the issue of it being bigger and overdriving the water pump and alternator. Since I tend to get into the red zone of the tachometer frequently I would be concerned about this.

In the end it's not worth all the hassle to modify things to save about $150, for us 24-valve guys looks like our only option is the Fluidampr. Too bad, the 6. 7 damper is HEAVY. . . it weighs at least 3 times as much as the stock 24v unit!

it's great that you took the risk to try it... too bad that it doesn't fit. PM me if you are interested in selling the 6. 7 damper.

Isn't the fluidampr the model the 3rd Gen group was having trouble with??

If so, have the 2nd Gens been having the same problems?

to answer any further questions about the fluidamper in relation to the 24 valve, DONT WASTE TIME OR $ ON ANYTHING ELSE, BUY THE FLUIDAMPER, you will love it the minute you fire it up (bout 20 min after taking it out of the box) ENJOY, COWBOY

Seafish yeah I'm interested in selling my damper, email me since I'm having trouble with the board -- email address removed --

Cowboy I'm planning to get a Fluidampr from XDP or whatever they're called. I hadn't heard of people having trouble with them on 3rd Gens?

Too bad it doesn't fit. I wonder what the larger pulley diameter would have done to the water pump, alternator, PS pump, etc?

I'm not sure AH64ID but it was something I would be concerned about. . . if nothing else it would create more drag and possibly have a slight negative effect on fuel economy. It's interesting the 3rd & 4th Gens are set up with larger diameter pulleys, means higher belt speed. The fan pulley I ordered with the damper is way bigger than the 24V one too, I would say 30% larger in diameter, so ratio-wise the fan will turn slower on a 3rd Gen (which would make sense being how much larger they are).
