Water/methanol question

Twin turbo dynoed HP...

Do we have one ?

The reason for this post is to see if we *Fellows of TDR* can get chrysler to produce a TSB/reflash for our Pre-98 47RE transmissions in order to get rid of the problem of stack shifting.

From what i understand you can play with the springs in the valve body, and other adjustments until you're blue in the face. Even after exhausting many hours of trying this and trying that you still cannot get one of these early 47RE transmissions to shift at the same points of a 24 Valve 47RE combination.

Chrysler does offer a reflash for 24 Valve equipped trucks for the folks that choose to 1. snowplow 2. tow frequent 3. tow heavy.

Can they make the same type of TSB for our 12 valve equipped trucks ??

Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Curtis

I do not fully understand what the issue is with your trans.

Is the shifting not derieved from the internal pressures of the trans? As I understand it, the eletronics only control the governor switch and lockup of the convertor.

What exactly does this model have issues with? Am I missing something?

Dave

As i understand it, pre 98 47re transmissions have a problem stack-shifting. What i'm trying to do is get rid of the problem with stack-shifting.

While driving your truck it should shift at light throttle around 15 to 1600 (pretty close i think) If you drive my truck it'll stack-shift 1-2-3 before 15 mph.

Yes i can manually shift it, but if i *really* wanted to do that i would have bought a manual.

I don't want to sound picky here, but i know it's a problem with these transmissions. I would love to find a cure for such a problem.

Thanks for your time

Curtis

I see.

I can tell you that my transmission will shift very soon under light throttle. But that is because the pressures are way up there and since we are dealing with a mostly mechanical system, one change affects another.

FWIW, stock, my '02 shifted pretted early, but nothing like you describe. I would be curious to hear what the transmission builders feel they could do if anything.

Thanks for the clarification!

Dave

hey curtis, that doesnt seem right. i will ask a guy i know at a local chrysler dealer what he thinks. then i will let you know.

mark

Mark i would appreciate that very much.

John, your truck is bad*****. How's Nancy like the stacks?? Time for sticks yet ?

Dave thanks for trying. Anyone else with questions..... please ask

Curtis

Curtis. .

Have you tried moving the TVI cable to change your shift points at all?. Also, remember that Ma Mopar has designed ALL their transmissions to shift quickly and soft to eliminate consumer critisim about harsh shifts. They did that years ago and each new model seems to get worse. I got the privledge to drive a new 05 Hemi Durango a friend of mine just brought home from the dealership(fool traded a low milage 360 R/T Durango on it) and you talk about sloppy shifting. When you mashed the loud pedal down it slid into gear shifting up like the old Powerglides used to. I told him he made a huge mistake and the first thing he better consider before modifying this one was to have the transmission done,LOL... ... ..... Andy

Andy yes we've (myself and an excellent trans wizard) tried to move the TV cable. It either makes the 2 - 3 shift tooo late (way past 3200) or it makes the 1 - 2 shift way early.

I'm just trying to get idea's on a happy medium here. If chrysler could supply us early 47RE users with a TSB to help us shift firm, and around 16 to 1800 rpm under light moderate throttle, i for one would be A VERY HAPPY DODGE DRIVER.

Thanks for the replies and help

Curtis

Sorry took so long also

hey curtis, i havent seen my buddy yet. i usually see him all the time. but when i have a question for him, i never see him. i should just get his number so i can call him. i will let you know if i hear something from him.

mark

Does that model have an APPS? I had to calibrate mine to get the shifts right. Now, I can tune the timing of lockup without using the TV cable.

Dave

Fishin guide the Apps is fine according to good ol' snap-on. Apps sweep results are perfect, Apps idle voltage and WOT voltages are within range as well.

Thanks for the thoughts, keep 'em comin

Thanks Mark

Curtis

I really thought there would be more ideas than this.

Feel free to help myself and others that could/are fighting with these issues.

Thank you
