A sticker on both sides of my Trans state:

NOTICE: THIS TRANSMISSION MUST BE SERVICED WITH TEXACO STF 1874.

Unless this procedure is followed severe damage will result, and Transmission Warrantee is null and void!

I was going to run Amsoil but am leary of it now. I thought if a special lube was called for, it had to be provided. It gives no other choices for fluid.

Me too!!!!!

I'm an Amsoil dealer and even I'm NOT going to run Amsoil in my 6spd. I don't want to ruin the synchros from using the wrong fluid. As soon as I hit 50k,I'm going to put Texaco back in it.

I have no problem using the Texaco lube, I have just never seen a specific Brand Required. If the Trans lube is this good, how about the engine oil from Texaco?

Texaco has a hevy duty oil called "Ursa" my friend owns a Texaco station and he used to sell it. Its good oil, but i would stick with Delvac or Rotella, just an old habit i guess.

As for the special Texaco oil you need for your trannies, let me know exactly what its called and how much you need and i can get it at cost from my friend who owns the Texaco dealer. He does not mind at all. ill call him monday and get a price

The 5 speeds have the same warning on the PTO covers. In addition to the Mopar part number, there is also a GM part number on my transmission. One small problem: It's not a synthetic lube. The Mopar stuff is

Run the Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 diesel oil in the 6 speeds.

Amsoil has a full warranty backing their products up. If they tell you it is safe in that transmission, it is.

We went through this with the 5 speeds, and I'm sticking with the Amsoil.

The decal is a scare tactic for mechanics to sell $22 a quart oil(Castrol Syntorq in the 5 speeds. ).

All manufactorers are coming out with "special oils" trying to make some easy money. Ever heard of ATF+4? Same thing.

If you want more details, feel free to e-mail me.

I've been looking for a source of Texaco STF 1874 in the Reno, NV area but have had no luck, since we don't have a Texaco Wholesaler. I'd be interested if anyone has a West Coast source that I can purchase from.

Thanks,

Gene is absolutely right about the scare tactic warnings. I will be going back to the Amsoil after the drive train warranty is up, since warranty consideration was my reasoning for going back to the Castrol in the first place. I never had any problems whatsoever with the Amsoil synthetic in the transmission. The analysis results came back good. I probably went to far on the lube, though (42K miles) From this point forward, I'm changing lube every 30K or as conditions dictate. It's a good way to keep a finger on the pulse of your truck's drivetrain.

AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP?!?!?!?!

The damage will already be done!

Remember, Amsoil can not replace lost metal!

LOL!

I don't want any factory lube designed to "get me out of warranty" manufactored by the low bidder!

Really, you'll be fine! Not scared are you?:D :D

Is anybody really worried they are going to analyze the oil to see what brand it is? i dougbt they will know Texaco from Amsoil

Good point.

Lets say 5th gear flings itself off for no good reason other than poor design still under drivetrain warranty.

They may say,"What oil do you have in there?"

And you answer, "XYZ brand"

They may say, "Sorry, warranty is voided. "

Then you say," Please put that in writing. "

Then they start sputtering because they know you are not a fish.

The burden off proof is on THEM to give a reason WHY that oil caused the failure.

In Amsoil's case, if they put it in writing, Amsoil will take care of it. They can not just verbally void a warranty. If they even try, time to switch dealers.

In the 5speeds, the Amsoil is a nice blue color, where the Castrol is mostly a burnt, brown disgusting color. No problem seeing the difference there.

No matter what oil you have in any component, I would suggest taking a sample before you drop it off for any warranty work. Then you will have some facts backing you up if they start to play games.

I too am an Amsoil dealer. That said, IF I had a NV5600 in my Ram I would have changed over to the Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 HDD within the first 1,000 miles.

I ain't skeered

I'll stick with the factory stuff till warranty is out, unless I start to see a problem. Gene, what gear lube are you using? I used the SAE 75W-90, not the Series 2000 75W-90. I believe there is a difference, but I can't find anything definitive on the Amsoil web page.

I'm using all Series 2000 and 3000 lubes. Different additive packages, more expensive, better wear protection.

The old gear lube you will need limitied slip additive.
