Okay paychk, I'll try to check this out today. Should I adjust my crankshaft position sensor to about 52 thousandths?

Thanks,

John

Okay guys, Crank Sensor is set at 50 thousandths. I checked the relay and it worked exactly as it should paychk. I checked voltage on battery with truck running and it was at 10. The guage in the truck is reading 11. What to do now. Do I buy a computer?

Thanks,

John

Are you still getting fault codes for the crank sensor? if you are then there is something wrong in that area and the PCM won't turn on the alternator. If code 11 is gone and you have no other codes and If you have checked continuity with a meter, from the crank sensor and the ASD relay to the PCM and that all checks, then the only thing left is the PCM. Is there anyone near you that would lend you theirs for a quick test before you lay out cash for a new one?

It looks like there is a 12, 33, and 55. What do these signify? What's next?

Keep up the good work guys, we'll eventually get it!

John

Okay guys:

I talked with an automotive electrical rebuilder today and he said he knew that it was the voltage regulator, he's worked on a ton of them, some many years newer than mine. I don't feel too bad now, I knew that was about the only thing left. I took the truck to him today and tomorrow he's going to wire around the computer and install a regular voltage regulator and I'll get it back tomorrow. This SHOULD fix my problems.

Thansk to all who helped,

John

boys:

The rig is fixed. I had him install a voltage regulator and hook up the lightning to my guages and it cost me $95 for parts, labor, and all. I didn't think that was too bad. My truck is charging fine now. Thanks to all who helped!

John

Glad to hear your back among the living! any chance you can post a wiring schematic, or description of hookup for future reference?

How much is a PCM anyhow? Do you know if your new system works through you auto-shutfown relay? I remember you said thaat was working

I might be able to If I can figure it out myself:D I see wires coming out of that relay so I assume it's been hooked to it. The ole girl fired right up this morning with the wind chill at around 0*, rolled once.

Thanks guys

One other thing you my want to do with your truck is to take apart all of the wiring connectors check for corrosion and put in dielectric silicone into them seal them from moisture. My 93 had the exact same problems as what you had described and I had corrosion in one of my connectors. No problems for 1 year now. I had this problem in cold weather and wet weather only for 2 years as it was on and off when it did that. It was a pain in the butt!!!
