New Land Speed Record Established for Diesel Truck

Common PS problems

As you may have read in my profile, I'm planning on repowering my '85 6. 2L Chevy with a Volvo TD60. Stock power is about 180-200hp and 400-450lb-ft. Potential power, according to a Volvo/Scania dealer I talked to in NJ (named Telmo) is "eh, how much do you want?" Anyway, to make a long story longer, does anyone have, or know where I can get, more info on these engines? Service manuals, parts manuals, whatever - I'm looking for it! My contact info is in my profile, and thanks in advance.

hey!

Hey NH2112! This is turbokid from over on the dieselpage.com...

I think there was actually some info about that engine on volvo's website... I looked it up once a while ago... If not use their dealer locator and maybe someone there could get you something...

Other than that, search, search, search... I've found quite a bit of info on my isuzu and where to get parts, etc...

BTW- my engine and transmission is in and runnin now... almost 4000 miles of runnin good!!!

I have some pics at http://www.picturetrail.com/turbokid

Anyway, sorry I couldn't help you more... . good luck!

Ty,

Well, right now I'm pretty much where I was when we last talked - I have the engine, but haven't done anything else yet due to not having a beater to drive in the meantime. That's gonna change soon, though. Then it's a matter of getting the transmission. I'd like an NVG5600, but if there's room for the #3 bell (body lift if necessary) I'll run a 5-speed Clark or something similar. Another guy has a 5-speed Volvo transmission from a TD60, and it's supposedly pretty small. Then, to double or not? That is the question. 10 (or 12) forward speeds would be nice with that engine! :D But, at least I HAVE decided to build a flatbed (9' so an 8' load can fit inside with the sides attached) and to ditch the stock GM saddle tanks for 2 ICC ones of 30-40 gallon capacity.

I picked up a set of 3/4T axles from a 73 K20, and just about have those done - I'm waiting to get park brake cables and splash shields. They'll go under the truck soon, to get rid of those wimpy 3. 08s (but damn, do I like them on the highway LOL) It's a typical NH2112 project - planned out forever, changed several times, and way over schedule & budget!

Sounds like you're having fun!!!

I assume your volvo is similar in length to my isuzu... if it is, the #3 bell fits pretty well under there with a 1" body lift... .

To double would be cool... I need to find a box...

Dang, too bad one of those 3. 08's wasn't a 14- bolt... I'm looking for that ratio and the highest I can find is 3. 23... I want to get my rpm's down... they are at 2800 at 75 mph right now...

Well, have fun with your project... don't go to much over budget... :D
