I installed this Voyager XP (taken from my 3rd gen) Sunday in my 96 long bed ext cab 2500. When I bought this truck, the rear harness had been trashed by the previous owners, pulling the wires, harness and such apart where it splits into the two tail lights and trailer harness.
I wired the lights into a 6 pole connector but not the trailer brakes nearly a year ago, and had no problems. I wired the two remaining wires I had, One 12-10 guage red wired an one 10-12 gauge blue wire into the connector on Sunday after I installed this box and my B&W turnover ball.
The 40A fuse had been removed from under the HOOD so I replaced it.
I connected to the trailer, I have lights, stop lights, and the green light was on for the controller. I hit the brake pedal and the light turned red, but didn't shift back to green instantly like when the pedal was released like it did in the 3rd gen. Today, hooked to the same trailer, I have the green light, but it won't turn red at all with the pedal. It will turn slightly when the manual slider switch is used. I have no trailer brakes at all.
I tried to adjust the level and gain according to the instructions. This made no difference.
IT's is possible I have the ground and the brake wire switched, however, I took a DVOM to the wires on the trailer and the truck to make sure which were the ground.
I hope someone can help me out. I did all this to take the load off my 3rd gen. I want to keep it nice, and the war horse is set up much better for the work load. It just doesn't stop a trailer too well on it's own.
