Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) vp 44 electrical connector

this truck has been a nightmare. the shop said bad ecm and since they are throwing parts at the problem with no solutions. the truck will crank now and run (aflter 5 different inj. pumps), but now they think its the connector at the injection pump. can this be replaced without replacing the entire wiring harness.

I am a certified technician - do you have high miles, if you have problems at this connector I'm betting you have other connectors in similar condition, have they given you a price on the harness? Short of finding someone who can locate and fix your exact problems a new harness may solve several of the problems you are having. This connector can be spliced on if done properly.

If my truck was at a shop that tried even three pumps, I would move to another shop ASAP. The pump diagnose and swap is not that big of a deal. I too am a certified auto and diesel tech. The plug can be repaired/replaced with some careful work. Cummins sells a VP test tool, and I would look into a shop plugging and unplugging a plug at least ten times(1 in and 1 out per pump). It may be a bad pump plug because of a rough technician or even the good old TEST LIGHT style testing. Plug may be pricey and NOT your fault. Keep check book far away from shop for a while.

well we picked up the truck Friday. It runs well at the present. the problem was found in the plug basically by accident. with the truck running, the tech jiggled the plug and the truck died. while dead he could hear a clicking in the area of the plug. He bent the inside of the round connector a little bit to make a better connection and that solved the problem. I would appreciate any information on how to obtain a new plug or repair parts to refurbish the old one. thanks so much for your help.
