Hey guys, I'm having some trouble diagnosing a problem with my dad's pickup so I'll throw it out there and see what you guys think. I'll start from the beginning. It has a FASS fuel supply system/20K on new injector pump/new injectors(5,000 miles)/61k on pickup/75 miles on tank of fuel.
I was driving along about 150 miles into my trip home the other day and decided to stop at a rest area, everything seeming to be running fine, I pulled in and shut it off. I came back out to start the pickup and it wouldn't fire at all. It sounded to me like the FASS was running, I crawled under and checked the FP gauge back on the FASS and it said 20psi with the key on, starter bumped.
I cracked 3 injector lines loose and bled them but noticed when I was tightening them back up the #4 had a constant stream of fuel coming out of it after I stopped cranking and when the FASS was still running. I thought that was a bit odd. Anyway, I finally got it started after that and it seemed to run fine, revving it up, 20psi fuel pressure, but as soon as I put it in gear it was like I shut the switch back off immediately. Then it was the same story again when I tried to start it, bleed the injectors, constant stream from #4, start up, dies when I put it in gear.
I tried putting brand new fuel filters on, bled the system, same problem. The fuel pressure seems fine, but I can't get down there to check it as I'm putting it into gear.
I thought maybe there was a wiring harness problem with the FASS so I tried running a jumper wire straight to the battery eliminating the factory harness control of the electric pump. Still the same problem.
Could this be a bad VP-44, or should I be looking for problems elsewhere(fuel tank pickup, FASS). Any help you guys can give me would be great, I'm at a loss as far as what the problem is. I also have a new spare VP sitting here, just don't want to throw it on if that's not the problem!
Thank You
