Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Break In Twins Q's?

Of those of you who have replaced your VP, did you ALL have the typical symptoms ie. . 0216, dead pedal, white smoke, etc. ? I've read previous posts that indicated there were significant power gains by replacing a VP. I'm thinking mine is getting tired at 198k miles but have no codes what so ever & have none of the typical symptoms listed above. The only symptoms I'm having is a slight miss\surge while pulling my 5vr on inclines ONLY or when trying to accelerate while heavily loaded ie. 5vr or boat in tow. I believe to be suffering a bit of a power loss.

Is there any way of testing a VP to know weather or not it's performing at the Bosch specs?

Thanks,

Clay

I think your miss might be due to the Comp... . mine misses in all levels when loaded with my 5th wheel - 1700-2100 rpms. Levels 1 thru 3, just not as bad at level 1. Without a load, no miss. I've replaced the VP twice so I think you can eliminate that.

It did it with my EZ too. When I unplugged the EZ data link & the miss was substantially less but still there. When I shut the Comp off it also diminishes the miss but it does not go completely away. Hoping it something simple like a sensor but I have no CEL or codes so I'm at a bit of a loss... . Power loss possibly but not sure due to swapping tire sizes & re gearing... .

Mine goes away when I turn the comp off. I've read a lot of posts about the edge products causing this problem when towing heavy, kind of sucks either ignoring it when you pull the hills or turning it off and losing the added HP.

Grounds, noise filters, new software... . I just don't tow enough to try and track down the problem. Running empty the Comp is a kick in the pants.

Is your pump wire tapped? I didn't tap my pump so I'm just runniing as an EZ. I guess I'll try replacing my IAT Sensor & Map Sensor & see if I see any improvements by replacing them. I hate the idea of living with this miss\surge but if it's an Edge characteristic then I'll have to live with it until somethiing else proves better. The idea of throwing away $1100 on a VP that still may be functioning alright does nothing for me either.

What gets me is I don't recall this miss\surge a few years ago when pulling our other 5vr but of course that 5vr was smaller... . Hmmm.

Symptoms, P0216, intermittant on Smarty sw3, imediate on Sw1,
300 plus miles stock , no code,

Dead Pedal with Sw1 ( 1 time, lasted about 10 miles than normal )

Lost power with rebuilt IP. I think the old VP was sticking advanced,
really jumped off idle ( std shift ) even on stock setting.

New IP with Smarty sw 1 ( fuel saver ) 2500 miles, no P0216 ,

It appears that timing programs will find a weak IP.
