Maybe some one can help with a survey. .

I have owned three trucks with 24 valve engines, with only one VP failure. It happened to be the HO. Is there any relationship between HO pump(ending ##'s 028, NOT 027) and premature death to the pump? It seems every time I read a VP post, the truck is a High Output. I will be the first to vote on this issue.

Standard output pump fail - 0 out of 2 ending(027)

High output pump fail - 1 of 1 ending(028)

Any thoughts???

Dave

I got my truck with 50K on the clock, but as far as I know I am on the original VP44. Now I have 123K (knock on wood).

They fail mechanically and/or electronically. Isn't going to matter if it is an HO or SO engine.

The electronics don't like the engine heat. Starving the pump for fuel will kill it, too.

Just a tad over 117k miles on my HO and still am running on the original VP. I have the True Torque Power Module and RV275's and monitor fuel pressure (3rd lift pump).

2002 HO my VP is shot right now, and I know of one other blown VP on my truck before I bought it. 80k miles.

I been around TDR for over five years now, and I agree with all the responses. My first post was just a hunch. I have read about the rotors and electrical failures, I have read about pressure and volume, etc, etc. I have been an ASE auto/truck technician for as long as I have been around TDR and it seems the more posts I see with VP issues, the trucks are HO's. Just a strange coincidence.

PS can somebody make this into a poll, or explain to me how to do it? Thanks!

Thanks guys. I will just wait and see.

PS Add two more votes for my two standard output trucks with NO problems!! My only one vote went for my 01 HO that was sold.

01 SO VP replaced at 3000 miles No joke I put in a five star complaint third time in the shop for no start when hot. 5 star sent a rebuilt VP to the dealer with my Vin stamped all over it and instructions to install only on my truck. The Dealer had a VP in stock but 5 star said do not use it. I now have 149143 on the clock and I have not had one problem with it. The truck is stock mostly except for guages, 4 inch exhaust and AFE with proguard 7 filter. The VP acts just like when it was new and the truck Dynoed at 201. 1 before the exhaust which is about 15 HP over what a stock truck usually has. BTW the exhaust gave me a Dyno of 206. 1.

Believe me I knock on wood every morning when I go out to start the truck.
