Hey everyone. First off I'm new to this site, I havent posted anything at all yet and been thinking of what to do before I dive in. I want to build an all around stump pulling truck. I'm not sure what I should do first but the engine is out and torn down as of right now. I made one purchase so far and that is a set of factory cummins 5. 9 pistons and then had them sent out to Swain Tech to be coated. I want a reliable way to make power, I've thought about eliminating the VP for the CR pump. Can this be done?? Has anyone done it or know of it being done. What kind of computer upgrades are there, like what CPL # is for the most powerfull CR motor so I'm that far ahead. Any help would be great. Thanks

Bryan

You can't replace the VP44 with the CP3. On the 24V, the VP44 controls the fuel delivery to each injector, then injectors just open when they reach the pop-off pressure. On the new CR engine, the CP3 just puts the pressure behind the fuel and the injectors are in control of the fuel delivery. So in order to run the CP3 instead of the VP44, you'd have to go to the new set of electronic injectors. And if you do that, you might as well start with a CR engine.

Ok, sorry about that, I know about the new fuel rail and the different injectors. I am asking if the difference between the blocks from the older VP44 motors and the newer CR motors are the same, if so, could I just swap the pump and all the related parts to convert my motor to a CR?? Thats what I want to know. Thanks for your help.
