VP44 and LP failure Poll -everybody can vote

Here's a VP poll for those of us with less than 200,000 miles. Vote early and often!;)

Maybe nobody will fall through the cracks on this one.

Lift puimp

Lost 1st LP 36600 then tried the PE4200 they did'nt work. I went back to the carter 2 pump system. Now I'm at 48+k and of course have a FP gauge.

Specifics...

Wade,

I voted. Here are my specifics. OEM lift pump replaced at 84K under warranty. VP44 replaced at 136K due to hard starting when warm condition. This had been going on since 84K, but it recently reached a point to where it would often turn over 10+ seconds before starting. Afraid it was going to leave me stranded. New VP44 solved hard starting when warm problems and truck runs great. Second lift pump replaced at 140K. Thinking about relocating Private Carter. ;)

1st lp 10000 dead

2nd lp 20000 low pressure when gauges installed at 18000

3rd lp still good at 44k

OOOmmmmmm Good Inj pump OOOmmmmmmm

Hey lookie only 8 bad VP's so far... whoops maybe ten there's "more than one failed VP" vote.

Maybe they're not the timebombs they're cracked up to be. knocking on wood. ;)

Nice survey WP! Now that you've put one together, doesn't it seem like 10 choices isn't really enough for the big picture? That was my problem putting a poll together. Seems like we need a lot more than 10 options to see what's really going on w/ these VP's... are the non-failures low mileage, BOMB related, LP related, VP serial # related, etc. , but not really sure how we make a fool-proof poll... if I knew that though there wouldn't be a reference to a 200k VP survey... hehehe... can't wait to see how all of these polls finally come together.

118k... VP failed & LP diagnosed as failure with pressures of 11psi @ idle, 9psi cruisin, and 6psi @ WOT (I think those were the numbers).

I started monitoring pump pressures at 51000 miles,at that time the original lift pump was working, but weak. With the comp on it would pull it down to -2 psi. I added a pusher at 55K ,and ran the weak lift pump another 8 months,it worked great with a pusher,it would never drop below 6 psi with the pusher. After replacing the lift pump at 60K, i cant pull it below 11psi,BUT my pressures at idle are over 30psi. Its been this way about 18 months,it never starts hard or doesnt anything unusual. Ive heard of hard starting problems, but mine is unafffected as far as starting goes. I now. I now have 82000 miles, most are hard miles with a drag comp ,and a ton of hours from plowing. The original VP is working perfectly,I see no reason to mess a good thing.

Wade -- seems like we need to do something differently with these surveys... we both got about 70 responses yet one survey shows 50+ failures (admittedly excluding some people), while the other survey only shows ~15 failures. I would have expected this surveys fail rate to at least match the other survey while your non-fail rate should be higher since there is no exclusion due to mileage... just not adding up.

Next poll responses"

1) Stock Truck -- VP44 Failed while under warranty (<100k mi. ).

2) Stock Truck -- VP44 Failed after warranty expired (>100k mi. ).

3) Stock Truck -- Still original VP44 and still under warranty (<100k mi. ).

4) Stock Truck -- Still original VP44 and warranty expired (>100k mi. ).

5) Some Mods Installed -- VP44 failed before 100k.

6) Some Mods Installed -- VP44 failed after 100k.

7) Some Mods Installed -- Still original VP44 <100k miles.

8) Some Mods Installed -- Still original VP44 >100k miles.

9) Extreme Performance Mods -- VP44 failed

10) Extreme Performance Mods -- original VP44

Some Mods would be something like a box (Edge EZ, VA, etc. ) that doesn't tap the VP44 pump wire and perhaps slightly enhanced injectors... extreme could be anything beyong that.

Thoughts? Other than I'll wait for the dust to settle on the existing polls before I'll pursue another.

The line might be easier drawn at particular level of HP. Most folks with mods have a real good idea what HP they're developing even without dynoing.

I fear that "extreme" and "some" are a little muddy and that what constitutes "extreme" to one might not be that hot to another.

Where to draw that line now becomes the issue. How about uprated HP? Like "uprated less than 100" and "uprated more than 100" A pump wire tapped will give you that or "stage 3" injectors. Not sure what combo of injectors + box that would equate to.

I'm up 200!:p :D (50 more with turbo upgrade).
