Hi

I am on my 3rd lift pump, my truck has only 55,000 miles. That is the bad news. What I believe is the good news- I have never experienced a noticeable loss of power when a pump was going bad. I know low pressure is hard on the VP44 but does anyone have any insight on how my case may have affected the VP44? I have always used Stanadyne, that can't hurt. The last time a pump went bad was about 4,000 miles ago. It showed nearly zero pressure but made full boost and I could not tell anything from how it drove. I was on the road and had to drive it nearly 200 miles in this condition before changing the lift pump.

The lift pump now is relocated to the framerail by the fuel tank and my plans are to upgrade to the Holley Blue pump since my current pump is just starting to show erratic fuel pressure.

Thanks

Bill

The Holley is a good choice, but any time that you starve the vp44 of fuel is doing some damage to the internals of the pump. I'd upgrade the pump before chancing fuel starvation.

My understanding is that continued use at under 5lbs will result in VP diaphram wear. I recently lost my 2nd lift pump. It went to 5 lbs on start up until the pump smartened up and recovered. I don't think I did any harm as I replaced it quickly. What would we do without guages?
