I was pulling onto the highway, I had the comp at 5x5 and was in 5th gear accelerating at about 3/4 throttle at 55 psi boost. then imemediatly lost power and limped it home. It was running rough and threw a po252 code.

Any idea's?

P. S. Comp box came back from Edge 6 weeks ago after getting drag version and bech tested, has worked good until today.

Thanks, Bret.

Does the engine sound like it is running rough? When my vp44 went the engine sounded like one of the cylinders wasn't firing. The pump didn't quit 100% right away so I was able to go another couple miles. Then I got dead pedal and I was done.

I thought that I would drive it around to see how it would run, and it died at a red light 6 blocks away and wouldn't start ( didn't lift ). I think it's the vp44, but i'll see it it will start tomorrow.

It was running rough like I was down one cylinder.

That is almost exactly the way I went out. I'm sure it is the injection pump. Did you get any other codes? I replaced mine myself buy it still cost me about $1400. I took off the fuel supply line into the vp44 to make sure the lift pump was still working. Probably not a great test of the lift pump but at least I knew it was providing fuel and it was. I ended up replacing the lift pump anyhow because at 180K I figured it would be a problem sooner than later. I did that first just for the heck of it and still had to do the vp44.

It always runs the best right before it dies. I was on 5x5 Edge Comp Drag box petal to the metal with water meth. on when my vp44 died, only I didn't get to limp home. I was towed by a Duramax. :{ At least it was dark! No codes were thrown. Brad at Ponci's Diesel hooked me up with a new pump. :-laf

Yep pretty sure mine vp44 is out then to! Was at WOT and doin bout 80mph and it just let go and the tach went to idle. Thought for a second that I had snapped my output shaft till I saw my rpms. Shut the truck off and started it again and it worked again so I went for home and bout a mile from home it did it again only this time it goes to idle and if you touch the pedal it instantly jumps to 1300rpms. Doesn't make a dif whether you floor it or if you barely touch it - its just a on-off switch from idle to 1300rpms.

I didn't throw any codes but am almost possitive its the VP44

Well, I confirmed good fuel to vp44 and bled all injectors except for #2, got some fuel to injectors and snugged up injector and It won't start. One or two cylinders will fire will turnin g it over with a little smoke at tail pipe. I think that confirms it - First dead vp44 @ 213,000 km.

I'm looking at getting a hotrod version from NADP, or Ind. Inj.

It's a good time to upgrade. I took advantage of my turbo going out on Thursday to upgrade to an HX35/40 instead of replacing it with a stock.

Mine died last Wednesday evening.

No warning, running fine, left a stoplight at about 1/2 throttle, at about 2,000 rpm truck just nosed over like someone had turned off a light switch.

Cranked, saw good fuel pressure (16psi) no start. 86,000 miles

No codes, no Check Engine Light.

$81 tow bill, and $1600 HR VP from PDW I installed yesterday and alls well again in Cummins land.

There have been quite a number of VPs deciding to take "The Big Dirt Nap" in the past two weeks.

Too early to tell. ;)

The weather is rainy and cool here.

(glad I changed the pump yesterday)

I chose not to tap the pump wire (yet)

Running the Comp as an EZ on 5X5.

It feels kind of like the comp tapped on level 3X5 so far.

EGTs climb to 1200 fairly quickly, and boost jumps up to 30 psi.

More news/reviews as the miles roll on.

No pump tap? Is that 1200 pre or post turbo? Is your turbo still stock? After installing my HX35/40 I have seen a tremendous drop in egt's. I could only get into the pedal for about 7 to 10 sec before and now it is basically unlimited. No matter how hard I run it I have only seen a max of about 900 post.

Edge Comp without Pump Tap, stock injectors, stock turbo.

Goerend Tq Converter and Valve Body.

EGTs measured via Isspro gauge pre-turbo.

I noticed I can get a decent puff of smoke from a stop and when passing on the highway that I didn't see before when running the Comp with the pump wire tapped, so it seems this HR pump is fueling a little harder down low.

The Hot Rod VP44 will give you 65-100hp depending on the injectors that you have installed. We have seen some IAT sensors go bad after new programing was introduced in the system. We don't know right now why but We and Bosch have been seeing a 1% failure rate normally for IAT sensors. The new programing being installed now jumps the failures to 10-20% The hard part is we can't prove it yet but we are paying attention and keeping records.
