my 98. 5 dodge 3500 4X4 has 116000 miles on it about 10000 miles ago the injector pump went out. got a used one and it lasted about 2 months and it went out. then i got a rebuilt bosch and it lasted about 2 weeks. now they have given me a brand spankin new one and i am hoping it will last a while. does anyone know why they keep going out? i had a superchips d box on it could that have anything to do with it it has great fuel pressure on it 9-13 psi all the time just a few questions maybe someone could help

Ouch:(

1st question: Are you running a stock Lift Pump:confused: and is it your original or was it replaced the same time your VP was.

2nd question: Have you increased the size of you fuel delivery port or banjo bolt fitting to allow for more Volume of flow:confused:

I ask the first question because I am curious if you have your original pump? Can the original pump keep up with the mods if you have any?

I ask the second question because the banjo bolt can act as a restrictor to the VP. Your pressure in the fuel line will read ok but the VP could be starving for fuel do to the stock banjo bolt and its limited inlet size.

I have elected to remove my banjo bolt completely and I have a wide open fitting that is 3/8 inch inside diameter feeding the VP with fuel pressure provided by a FASS system.

YES THE LIFT PUMP IS STOCK BUT IT IS BRAND NEW NO I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO THE BANJO BOLT WHAT IS THIS FASS SYSTEM YOU TALK ABOUT PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INFO

Define "brand new" - and have you tested the pressure to be sure it's working to specs? Many people have gotten bad lift pumps right out of the box and many have also had them go out with very low mileage (I had one that tested great brand new and died within 2,000 miles). The best article out there on why VP44's fail is this one - http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/Bosch-VP44.htm - I highly recommend reading it.

Ditto on what Steve St. Laurent said above. My question were of the nature for finding out if maybe you were moded up.

Sometimes a person will bomb up the performance of the truck but neglect the suppport system. My second question asked before was in thinking that you were moded up, hence possible fuel starvation.

It sounds like you are in stock form. The lift pump should be checked for pressure output no matter what. I would check this with the old fuel filter first and then a new fuel filter inplace.

I replaced my Lift Pump for the reason and fear of it taking out my VP.

This thread will take you to a discussion on the FASS system;

a superchips D-box is only an Ege EZ rebadged. That shouldn't be causing your problems unless the box is defective,even then it isnt likely it caused them. You shouldnt need any banjo bolts,just a healthy stock lift pump with athe D-bx. My friend ran a D-box for 2yrs before we upgraded to a comp box. I would check your fuel pressure WOT,if you have 6-8psi with the D-box on you should be fine. Wh8ile a FASS system is nice and may help you shouldn't need ti to keep the VP44 alive. How is your fuel filter. there has to be a problem somewhere your not seeing.
