VP44 for CR trade

Hey all! I got an offer today and I need some help and advice fast! The offer was on an 06 Cummins 4x4, 4 door, long bed, Laramie package leather heated seats. The truck has 303,000 miles but is bone stock except for exhaust. It is a two owner and was only used for light towing never a gooseneck or fifth wheel. The offer is a trade plus 1k cash for my truck which is listed below. It has no rust! Trans was redone 64k ago. I believe this is a great deal deal but I don't know anything about common rail trucks. I know vp44s. So what I need to know is what to check when I go look at it? Is there anything I need to do to it immediately with that mileage? Help me out guys what should I be wary of before I jump on this great deal??

2001 Cummins 2500, 250,000 miles, Ext Cab, 4X4 w/cable actuator, 5 speed, BHAF w/custom heat shield and pre-filter, 75HP Injectors, Fuel Boss Mechanical lift pump(no electric pump), Vulcan Big Line Kit, Autometer Z series Boost, Pyro, and Fuel Pressure gauges in A pillar, SMARTY S-03, Bilstein 5100's, Cooper Starfire 510 285/75/16's.

With those miles injectors are a big concern unless they have documentation they were replaced with new. That is a $3000 item.

Ball joints, steering damper, track bar, and steering box are all suspect also unless replaced. Depending on what you buy, $3000-5000 replacement costs.

Rear drive shaft u-joints and center support, they are a problem area. $600-1000 to replace and fix correctly.

LP in the tank and CP-3 are lesser concerns if it still runs well but they have a lot of miles with unknown fuel quantity. $1000-2000 depending on what you want to buy.

TIPM on the 06, if they did any trailering with bad wiring make SURE all the trailer and truck lights are working correctly. That is $400-700 depending on source.

Without a Smarty mpg will likely not impress you from the 2nd gen, almost have to figure in buying one of those.

The 06 will a lot nicer and quieter, easier to get parts for and easier to tune and power up. You have the potential of $9000-13000 in repairs if everything goes bad. There is probably a $10k difference in actual value. Personal choice how you want to proceed.

Wow thank you for the detailed reply! I think I'm going to pass on it. I am looking to spend less money on the truck at this point rather than more lol

Lots of little stuff too, that all adds up. I know I had to do all these fairly common fixes when I bought my 06 with 130k on the clock. I wouldn't do it again...

HVAC doors break
Seat foam wears quickly
Gauge cluster shorts and issues
Oil pan rust through
Trans band strut & anchor
Rear main seal

Also did some of fixes that Cerb mentioned above...TIPM replacement, ball joints, steering joints, and anything else related to the steering/front suspension. Basically I'm buying a new truck, one piece at a time.
