Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) vp44 fuel wire tap or replace cover to tap it

I have seen the replacement covers to tap the fuel wire on the vp44 I see Edge and TST have these. I have a new comp box coming and am thinking of this route versus tapping the wire. As a tech myself I do not like the idea of compromising the integrety of the wire and possibly whole harness due to corrosion. Has anybody used one of these covers and do they work well. any pros or cons either way. Ideas anyone.
