Hello,

I started the truck this evening 39 degrees out and the idle seemed to immediately jump a couple of hundred rpm's on initial start up (couldn't duplicate it with future starts). I let it idle for a few moments and then shifted into drive and the rpm's dropped a couple of hundred rpm's below idle and then recovered. While doing this I noticed a very distinctive change in engine clatter. When the engine is cold it is much nosier than when fully warmed up, not just mechanical noises like valve train but clatter from the compression ignition process. The clatter will noticeably change as the engine is warming up (timing?). Anyway, my check engine light is on and I pulled the following codes 0122 and 1690. Any ideas?

The 0122 code is an APPS code. Did the truck seem to drive fine once you got going?

1690 is a VP code. Something wrong with pump timing.

This could be the pump going bad, or it could just be from cold weather.

1690 should have put the truck into limp mode I think.

The fuel knock you're describing is normal, especially when its cold outside. Of course I can't hear it, so I can't say for sure it is a "normal" sound.

When you started the truck, did it rattle around a lot more than normal and make a lot of white smoke?

Maybe someone else will chime in that has had similar issues.

How many miles are on your truck? Less than 100K, its the dealership's problem.

Yeah it rattled a lot more than normal but I don't remember any white smoke. It was pretty cold out and so there was a bit of steam from the exhaust pipe like normal. I took the truck for a drive and didn't see any white smoke while driving though. Thanks for your input.

White smoke at startup is normal when it gets below 40 or so. It is unburnt fuel, not steam. heres my truck at -40 at startup!! BTW, it wasn't plugged in that night.
