Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP44 new v.s. rebuilt

I think I am due for a VP. I posted down the line, and I have one more check to run before I condemn my pump. This may have been hashed out way back, but this is now. In reading BlueChip diesel writings, their rebuilt pumps have a lot of upgrades, and depending on how much money to spend $1200 to over $2000! Then, have to send in the core. A local diesel place had a rebuilt for about $1200, and they do it in house. Probably a basic 'fix whats wrong' rebuild.



The NEW pump I can get is also through a local place, and someone who does this work day in & day out, and has a good rep. He says he has installed a lot of the new pumps and they have been fine. New OEM, but he says they wont have the upgrades of the rebuilt pumps. No core to mess with. It is less money also. I like the thought of an all new pump with a new computer board. I am concerned it may have the same problems as the originals without the upgrades. May be a bit of a risk either way.



Last thought is that he can order it (the new OEM) for whatever stock horsepower the truck is. With mine a year 2000, it is a little less than the '02 or the H. O. Could I spec for the higher power/ newer year and install it to gain some HP? I dont want a hot rod, but I would like to up it to the high end of stock specs.



Any thoughts, recomendations or experiance with this?

I have heard that there are no more new pumps only rebuilt. Some one here may have heard different but when they say new I believe they are really rebuilt. I would go with Blue Chip Diesel.

I went with Bluechip 3 years ago and went with the unit just above stock the X I beleive and is Great and did help the fuel mileage a little as I now get an honest 21 mpg empty and no wind (rare in Wyoming)!!! M7 99 is bone stock and just went 200k last week. From the troubleshooting guide and the installation instructions and having talked to Chip early on, I can not say enough good about Bluechip!!

I haven't seen a new vp44 for many years

If someone actually has some they are not as good as the remand that have the updates

according to local bosch dealers here there is no such thing as a new vp-44. has not been for several years. If this guy has some he must have been holding on them for a long time or he is not being honest.

i think you can still get housings but not complete assy... .

GO WITH BLUE CHIP X !!!! 22 more hp ( I got 2 1/2 mpg more) and the peace of mind from a NEW computer board, plus ALL the upgrades -- steel liners, etc. etc. money well spent
