P0216 plus 1 incident of Dead Pedal.

Pump rebuilt at local Bosch certified Injection Pump overhaul Facility.

Only defect noted was the wear on the Brass advance cylinder...

Difficult to see, but wear in not concentric.

All other parts looked good. Pump Very clean, no fouling.

Note: The first 2 incidents of P0216 occured with Smarty level sw3,

With Smarty Sw2 ( Fuel Saver ) P0216 would occur almost immediatly.

along with 1 incident of dead pedal, (after hard acceleration).

Please also note, I had run Smarty Fuel Saver for 300 miles prior

to first fail (Sw3) with NO fails, So I believe pump was on verge

of failing.

I also ran With Stock Program twice between fails,No codes set.

( Limited miles : approx, 300miles )

I chose to have pump rebuilt now rather than have an incident at later time,

Will repeat tests with Smarty starting today...

So, did they replace the brass advance bore with a steel one and give you the new latest PSC? I take it that your truck is a 2001 or 2002 with the brass bore? SNOKING

YES to replace brass, and PSC. Rebuilder uses Bosch Reman case, new Electronics, advance piston, I think the head is reused...
They send the case back, bosch changes the brass sleeve.
And yes , 2002, earlier build HO 6sp.
? don't know where siggy went????

Same thing with my failed VP-44 - only problem was with the #@$%! brass advance cylinder - a VERY well known and common failure among the Bosch rebuilders. If Bosch had any conscience, they'd recall those design-defective pumps!

Otherwise, mine was fine, electronics and all...

I got my replacement VP from Industrial Inj. I wonder what they do to them:confused: Do they put the steel sleeve in??

Who else replaces the sleeve???

Just think, a couple of years ago we did not have a clue what was causing the failures. Now we are asking the right questions and are taking pictures of it.

TDR is just about the best money you can spend on ANYTHING.

Yes agree totally,but to fix a design flaw it cost us our time and $$$$$---hardy wait till mine goes. :-{}:-{}:-{}

Suck!!! I ordered a new/rebuilt vp on friday. Mine has the p0216 and dead pedal alot. Will be here wednesday. It lasted about 80k. Would be nice if bosch did something for us but I seriously doubt it.

The only help we're going to get is right here at TDR. If your VP puked under warranty. . consider yourself luck (I think?).

As recommended here. . get a fuel pressure gauge and up-grade the LP/fuel supply system. Need more help, just post a question. Someone will step right up and give you a hand. Try getting that kind of service from your dealer.

I have the II rebuilt injection pump on my 99. Are you guys saying that my pump does not have the brass bushings being that it is a early pump? Are these only found on 01-02?

I think it depends WHEN it was rebuilt. The rebuilders do the rebuild according to Bosch specs. IF the Bosch specs at the time of the rebuild was a steel advance piston then it has steel liner.

I had a VP44 exchanged under warrantee in summer of 04 (I have no idea when the VP44 was actually rebuilt). I have the same question which is:

Was my rebuild when Bosch was spec'ing the brass or the steel advance piston?

Maybe one of the rebuilders will help with when the steel advance piston sleeve was the spec rather than brass advance piston sleeve? Spec change date or some way to possible gleen the information off the VP44 data plate.

I do KNOW that the next VP44 will be steel as it is the current standard spec.

?

I had mine replaced under warranty in fall of '01 because of timing failure. They said the mylar sensor that senses timing position failed. That was at about 68k mi. , the new pumps been strong for ~100k now. If the new one has a brass bushing, what is the failure rate? ie, GOING to fail, likely, or just 1/2 a chance?

I guess a dead VP would be opertunity for an upgrade:D
