Hello,

I have a 2002 dodge ram with a HO 6 speed. I have a EDGE comp box and i just sent it in for a up grade to 8. 0 software. I am still having a problem it is when the box is on any setting if i get on gas and let off quick the truck will act like it has a bad miss and i will sometime die and i will have to use starting fluid to get it running again but this does not happen all the time i do have a fuel gauge and it never goes dead when the truck acts like this. i have 17psi at idle and 12 at full speed. i also have a set of 275 rv injectors. one last question is that it will idle up to 850 to 900 rpm when the clutch is in and once i drop to 5 mph or dead stop it will drop idle back to normal. any help would be helpful. i leave in denver colorado. :(

You'd better start saving pennies for a VP-44. Have you checked the codes yet? turn the key on, off, on, off, and then leave on. codes read out on odometer. any codes will read out. then it will say p done.

Good luck

John

sounds like your cavitating the injection pump. Ive worked on a couple of pick-ups that have had this happen to them. all that was needed was to bleed the high pressure lines. Every one of them that I have worked on like that all had one thing in common. They all had been mashin on the go and let off it very quickly.

I would make the suggestion to increase the size of your fuel line to 3/8 ID all the way to the VP. This allows more volume for the pump and should prevent cavitation. VP will also run cooler. ;)

apps or speed sensor cause of high idle

hello,

i did a post about my vp44 but i want to know if you have a answer about the jump in idle. it happens when when i drive and then come to a stop it will not drop from 850 to stock idle speed until you come to a complete stop also i had the 3 cyl warm up done for the winter in nov 04 but did not start getting this high idle until late summer 05 could be because i don't drive truck much 36354 miles on a 02. any help thanks. :(

I just checked my engine codes and got P 1693 P 0216 P0500. could some one tell me what they mean and how to clear them. :e

the idle thing is just a quirk. Probly. A while back there was some sort of VSS(veh. speed sens. ) problem that messed with the engine' mind. thats the only way i know how to put it. For example, nearly a year i had an intermitent prob of slightly high idle, and when that occured, there was NO clutch tourqe without go pedal. You get used to lettin the pedal up with no throttle, but in this "fail" condition the eng. would die like you shut off the key.

I had an ECM update (for 3cyl idle) and it contained some things about VSS and idle speed. Since i drove off the lot that day 3 years ago and to this day my truck does exatly what you describe all the time, and no more stall prob.

P 1693=DTC Detected in Companion Module, P 0216=Fuel Injection pump timing failure, P0500=No vehicle Speed Sensor

:( Does not look good for your pocket book :(

Don't forget the ones I got, they mean death too!!

254-Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Current Too High Problem caused by internal fuel injection pump failure.

1688-P1688 (M) Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure Internal problem within the fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.

1689-P1689 (M) No Communication Between ECM and Injection Pump Module Data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.

Blue Chip FMS and Blue Chip VP 44

Hello,

is there anyone that has am FMS fuel box from blue chip how do you like it does it give you good power. also does anyone have there VP 44. :D

I also have had the same problem as RAMCTD, bad surge at stops and died once all after running hard. GarrettPetersen said that it's cavitating the injection pump. Is bigger fuel lines all I need to correct this? Is this bad on the VP44? I need to get this takin care soon, because last time it die at a very busy stop light, good thing someone was kind and pulled me out of the way so I could bleed the lines.
