Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) smarty?

Bought an 01 about 90 days ago. I let Dodge under warranty replace the lift pump and relocate it to the tank. (Not sure I'm happy with that configuration, but the price was right - free). Anyway, I hear stories that the injection pump may be my next expense. I see allot of pump disributers and rebuilders out there. How hard is it to rebuild one? I secured a core. Frankly I'm pretty handy. If it can be rebuilt, does anyone know where I can locate a kit? Would Cummins have it?

Thanks,

Pat

It's FAR more than simply swapping in new parts - the VP-44 internal electronics has to be calibrated on a special VP-44 test stand - takes several hours to do properly - and the test stand costs far more than a casual truck owner would ever want to pay...

all the more reason i consider a p pump more and more seriously every time i think about the idea... less prone to self destruct and easier to rebuild if and when it does.
