Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP44 Replaced under warranty/recall by Cummins (not Dodge)

I just got back to Pennsylvania after having picked up a '99 Bluebird shuttle bus in Wisconsin. It was originally a Budget Rental airport shuttle at O'Hare.



It has a rear mounted 24-valve 5. 9l Cummins coupled to an Allison AT545 automatic transmission. After speculation in a previous thread as to turbo or not, it did, in fact, turn out to be turbocharged. Cummins in Bluebird buses



The starter crapped out before I went out, & they had to take it to a Cummins shop to fix it.



Here's where it gets interesting... ... They said there was a recall on the lift pump & injector pump on these buses, & did we want to go ahead & replace them (under warranty)? Hmmm... . I don't know... ... Duh!



They completely replaced both lift pump & injector pump at no charge.



I don't know about you, but this ticked me off even more after having to bite the bullet myself to replace both pumps on my '00 2500QCSB 4x4.



They were apparently concerned about liability if 24 passengers suddenly became stranded in traffic due to pump failure.



It's a shame Dodge isn't as concerned about the 3-6 people riding in a pickup truck!

Agreed. Doesnt reflect well on DCs concern for their customers.

Kudos to Cummins: For doing the right thing.

When you read the information included with the Cummins Campaign LP it talks about doing just what you stated bwbody. Unfortunately for us Dodge took over all warrantly for the truck including the engines!!!
