Hi All,

I understand the VP44 comes in a couple of flavors 027 and 028. The 028 being a higher perfomance pump than 027. Is the 028 pin for pin ( sry I'm a computer geek) compatible with the 027 ? I have the 98. 5 24v ISB 235hp motor. I'm not sure which pump I have at this point but would definately go for the hi-perf option. . since they are the same price. I got a quote of $1350 for a new VP44 028.

I would love to hear any advice on this!!!

Cheers,

Matt

As far as I know you have to use Standard output pumps (027) with Standard output engines and the H. O. (028) pumps with H. O. engines (2001-2002 ETH/DEE trucks) only. I know that the ECM's are not compatable between the two, without being reflashed to the trucks specs. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input!!

Is the 98. 5 235hp considered a HO ?? I was led to believe that the HO's weren't out until 00 or 01 . . ??

Is there some where you can reference your eng sn# to find out exactly what it was out of the factory ????

I really don't want to **** away a bunch of time and money on a mismatch.

I did talk to Harry @ Piers, He was leading me to believe I could run an 028 in my 98. 5 235 hp. .

Cheers,

Matt

Thanks,

Kinda what I thought. . I'm the proud owner of a 235 SO. . lol

Does Piers have a hotrod pump for the 235 SO ??

Thnx,

\Matt

I know I've read this on here many times... you can put a HO pump 028 on a stardard ETC Cummins spec engine and it will perform as a regular pump. But you shouldn't expect any HP gains.

The other way around... you should not put a normal ETC standard pump on a ETH HO engine because it will not perform properly. Cant remember exactly why.

Perhaps related... Edge boxes and such seem to offer greater increases in the standard engines... wheras the HO's dont respond as well to the upgrade. Maybe to the tune that standards end up with more power in the end on a box than HO's do if both get the same mod.

Thats what I remember reading and I cannot vouch for any personally.

Matt,

I have been running a HO (028) pump on an "01" SO engine for about 1-1/2 years (~25K miles) now without any problems. It does improve the performance some.
