It's done!!!!!

Well guys, I thank each and everyone who added there 2 cents worth. The Hotrod VP44 is in and the change is noticeable.

I do have yet one more question, The idle is at 1000 rpm and is ever so slightly rough almost like a mild misfire on a gasser. Any Ideas, should I bleed the lines again?

First hand go at a VP44 install with Sticks instructions, 6 hours.

Sticks, Kudos to you. nicely done! :D

Sorry I missed your e-mail at the critical time. I was at our club dyno day.

You may still have a little air in the lines. Check all your feed lines to the VP to make sure they are tight (so as to not let air into the system - might even be an air bubble in the fuel filter still).

Mgoncalves had kind of the same problem with his HR-VP44. Took a while for the truck to get used to it, which is weird since the Dodge trucks do not have adaptive software.

MACHINEST - I am going to stuff your detailed info on the gear removal in the instructions, if you don't mind...

To Sticks,

Putting the FASS on the outside still restricks its capability, because it still drawing thru a leaky restrictive fuel module. A good setup would be either open up the old fuel module or install the new fuelpump module and an out side lift pump.

There is a TDR member that rebuilt the fuel module with ss bolts and 3/8 brake lines as fuel lines. You can then run your fuel feed where ever you want, and run your return line where ever you want. He also CNC machined new line feed throughs. About $70 vs $400 fron DC.

Sticks, on the #3 injector I still get some air/fuel (foamy) I can't seem to get rid of it.

Any suggestions. Everything else seem to be fueling fine. Truck has great power but the idle is still rough like a misfire.

Very Nice Job Sticks...

I replaced my first VP44 recently, It was a hell of a lot longer than 1. 5 hours for me !

I would have liked to have had this post!

Pat,

When I used the gear puller (STEP 17) "I got a little carried away". Once the gear pops loose from the VP44 shaft... stop!

I was lucky I didn't mess up my timing gear cover.

JJ

PSoffe - you have e-mail

JJ - After you do enough pumps, and you have the tools and know what to expect, the time goes way down. The shop record is 1. 0 hour for VP and LP R&Replace, drive in to drive out. Feels like a rodeo pulling out the old pump, the old pump out of the engine, both hands in the air, and yell "TIME!" Then you get the jobs where everything fights you, funky customer accessory wiring in the way, and lines that just won't seal. If you get done in 5 hours you feel like you are lucky.

Thought I would toss a thanks out for all the info, just finished replacing the VP in a friends truck using stick's directions, went flawlessly. only trick was turning the motor over to get the keyway @12'oclock, had to get the wife to help the belt tensioner with a cheater bar to get enough belt traction. Took about 6 hours from collecting tools to drinking beer listening to her idle. Having the correct socket sizes on the instructions must have saved an hour of tool searching, let alone the 2 hour round trip to sears that would have been required if that list of tools wasnt provided.

We get 300. 00 for VP-44 r&r Not a bad job long as the key does't fall out and down the timing housing. That makes for a long day.

My VP44 went out on my 99 3500 and I had never had any experience with the R&R of a VP44. After watching Diesel-Dan's videos I tackled the job and did'nt have any problems at all. TWO THUMBS UP FOR DIESEL-DAN'S VIDEO'S!!!! They were a real confidence builder and time saver for me. :D:Oo.

I just started having dead pedal and the 0216 code. I am going to do a VP-44 replacement before towing a heavy trailer from TX to NY for my coming move in May. The Putfile site has been down for the last week. Are there any other places to get the videos from Diesel-Dan? Also, what is the thread size on the drive gear holes to attach the puller to?

Thanks,

Jon
