I have read many of the indications of injector pump problems and it appears that mine may be going. I have a 98. 5 24v 2500, auto with 121k miles. There was a suspicious jerking at a rest stop and then the next fuel stop it was hard to start. Ever since then, when it gets warmed up, it is hard to start and does not run well. It lugs when placed in gear. I have been searching for a reputable pump vendor to deal with. Can someone provide recommendations? It appears the general price is around $1,000 for a rebuilt. Also, it appears that the electronics get replaced on all rebuilds, is that true?

No, the computer board doesn't get replaced by all the rebuilders. You need to ask if they replace the computer board or not.

There was quite a bit of discussion on the 24V engine board (titled HRVP44 failures).



Industrial Injection claims that ALL their rebuilds get a new housing with a steel bushing (not brass that wears then causes timing problems), and a new, redesigned computer board, all for $1,000 ($1,600 for the HRVP).



Also seemed to be willing to work on tapped pump warranties - would warrant the mechanical portion of the pump if the wire was tapped, but not the board.

Check your local Cummins distributor. Cummins RECON pumps are readily available, and the warranty is the best in the business.
