Kelly - it's advisable that you create a signature for your truck this way it allows the rest of us to better answer/help with questions. Realizing you have 4 posts so far I understand there's much to become familiar with on the TDR, so in time it will come to you just by using the site.
An attempt to answer your question - the amount of time it will take to install depends on the system you plan to use and where you plan on locating it. That said I'd plan for 1/2 day +/- a few hours for the unforeseen issues that may arrive.
May I suggest checking this system out.
Glacier Diesel Power - Product Detail I suggest going with the big line kit and pre-filter shown in the lower left of the page linked above. Yes, yes, yes, - I understand you "just" want to help protect the VP and insure proper fuel flow is going to it :-laf, and that you really may not "plan" to do any performance modifications

(aka - BOMBs = TDR talk for Better Off Modified Baby) however, most of us start of this way until we start reading things here / ride in a BOMB'ed diesel / get our doors blown off by one and then think "what the heck was in that thing"

? Ususally followed by "hmmm I wonder if I can do that to mine":-laf? When the BOMB bug bites it all changes . . .
I also offer that this (in the link) is the system I decided to go with, there are many others out there, so do your home work, make up your mind and go for it. I advise calling a few of the vendors offering the varrious systems and just talk to them - this will help you determine (somewhat) their level of "customer service".
Have fun and beware of the BOMB bug, if it hasn't already bitten you . . . $$$$$$$$$$$$
