Starting to have fuel pressure problems again. Does anyone have input on the Vulcan transfer pump relocation kit. How does the installation go ? Does it work as described in the Genosgarage catalog ?

Input appreciated.

very good kit. best money i have spent (aside from my cup smoothie)install is easy. Cannot pull pressure lower than 11psi with the comp box on kill mode. before the kit i could go to zero in seconds

yup, do it you wont regret it, best hundred bucks i spent so far, keeps pressure up and works/installs just as advertised

the kit from genos is something like 3/8 inch hose and if i remember right it doesn't have the hose from the filter to the vp44. the kit straight from vulcan has 1/2 inch hose and includes the hose from the filter to the vp44. that is the price difference.

Quick question please. Does the wire harness have a relay in it so that the LP gets the proper voltage with the longer wire? Is one needed?

I just completed installing the Vulcan Relocater Kit and I do notice difference in performace. I had a strange incident occurr while taking the old lift pump off. The double threaded studs (mounting bolts and pump makeup bolts came out at the same time. I kept unscrewing the mounting bolts and they would only come out so far but contiinued to turn. Glad my son was there as I climbed down under the truck while the turned the top ratchet and I could then see the pump assembly/makeup bolt turning. The job now became a two person job my son on top with a 13 mm ratchet and me on the floor under the truck with an 11 mm openend wrench holding the bottom stud x3. The pump came apart (2 pieces) I lower the bottom section and aligned the impressions of the pump cover with the impression in the top gasket and then mounted it according to instructions. While I had the pump out I took the time to strainghtened the internal screen. I did cut the SS fuel line just where it bends inboard near the transmission and mounted the relo mounting bracket just forward to the transmission support cross member. I can say enough good thiings about Geno's they are there if you need them. Good luck on the install

got my relo. kit from vulcan on today, with the "$70 lift pump". Works excelent, 16-17 psi at idle, never below 11 or 12. I was really pulling the old pump down, like around 4 psi at times, so alot of my improvement may be the new pump alone, but bottom line I feel a whole lot better about smashing the throttle when the FP gauge barely moves...

I specifically asked Eric at Vulcan Performance about that and he said there is no significant voltage drop (like less than a . 10 of a volt), the harness extension is clean and simple and plenty heavy to handle the pump. If you think about it, you would have to run a wire back the relay the same distance, and chances are you have similar resistance and voltage drop in the contacts of the relay. Unless your pulling hard core amps there is no need for a relay.

i just replaced my lp and am still having hard starts. i believe there is air getting in somewhere. anyway, will the Vulcan work w/ the oem lp? and will it provided the numbers reported above (16-17 idle; 11wot)?

the vulcan kit is made for the OEM pump. I would expect that if you used your existing pump, you may not see an improvement on the max. pressure you alredy have, but it sure ought to stabilize your readings, and let you maintain colser to max pressure under heavy throttle.

Could you tell me more about the $70. 00 lift pump? I called my Cummins Dealer in Jacksonville FL and he knew nothing about it. Do you have a Deler name, stocking number and what is required to install this $ 70. 00 pump. Thank you for any help. EdS

Cummins has just released a Service/Parts topic for "New Fuel Lift Pump" for all ISB applications.

The Service/Parts topic states:

"This Service/Parts Topic announces the release on new fuel lift pumps for the ISB & QSB VP44 series engines. The new fuel lift pump, Part Number 4932707, obsolete and supersede the previous fuel lift pumps (Parts Number 3990105). The new fuel lift pump has a internal bypass circuit in the rotor housing that allows fuel to be drawn, with less restriction, from the fuel tank to the fuel injection pump in the event of an inoperable fuel lift pump. There are no visual differences between the new fuel lift pump and the old fuel lift pump. The new fuel lift pump can only be identified by the part number. "

The price of these new pumps will be close to the same price of the 3990082/3990105. The 4932707 is the liftpump out of the 4090046 kit.

From The 70 dollar lift pump thread. You may have to fish around for a dealer who will sell it to you.
