W-250 to W-350 Dually Conversion?

Has anyone ever converted a 3/4 ton single rear wheel over to a 1 ton dual rear wheel truck? I am considering doing this to my '92 W-250. I want to put a flat bed on, so I won't have to worry about adding the dually fenders. I thought about buying a dually, but everyone wants a lot of money for them and they all seem to have high milage on them. I know what has been done to my truck and I don't feel like rebuilding another truck. I think all I have to do is change the rear axle and maybe restack the rear springs. If anyone has done this, I would sure like to hear about your experiences. Thanks for the help.

If you decide to do it I may know were a dana 70 out af a 91 truck is with 308's you might get at an ok price or trade for your rear end let me know and I will check with the guy George

There are a couple of ways to go about converting your truck to a 350 dually. You already mentioned one of them, that of switching your rear axle to a dual wheel version. The second way would be to use a set of quality dual wheel conversion adapters. Arrowcraft sells a very stout set of front and rear adapters to get the job done.



In the past I have used the Arrowcraft stuffy to convert a 79 Ford F-250 4X4 and a 1972 Ford F-250 @wheel. My present F-350 Ford simply has a Ford dually rear axle now under it with a dually bed that I picked up for a $100 dollar bill. My front axle has the dually adapters on it. You could also just use the standard front wheels you already have. Since I go to the sand dunes I am going to be running a pair of 16X10 wheels on the front with wider tires to match the height of the rear duals.



As for the rear springs, I would suggest taking OUT a couple of leaves for the better ride and adding a set of quality air bags to the rear springs and frame. You then have the best of both world, both soft ride and the ability to PUMP it up and carry the big loads.

What type of modifications do the front hubs take? I was planning on robbing a set of front rims off another Dodge. I have seen the Arrowcraft conversions and kind of like them. I will price that out. It would make it easier for me because the current Dana 70 I have is in great shape. Does anyone know if the dually Dana 70's are narrower than the Dana 70's on a single rear wheel truck? Thanks.
