I'm getting the parts together to do the king pin bushings and bearings on my '89 CTD. I've got most everything except the upper spring retainers. The dealer says that Dodge does not stock them any longer. I'd check at NAPA but I could not even get them to put the rest of the stuff together that's why I ended up at the dealer. Do these usually go bad? Does anyone have a source for these. I hate to put the old ones back since I'm tearing it down to do these and replace the axle knuckles at the same time.

Thanks.

Jeff

There isn't much to wear on them. I wouldn't worry about replacing them.

Moog makes a lower adjustable ball joint for our front axles. Make sure you get this kit. It lets you set the caster on the front wheels. No more eating the insides of the tires. I couldn't find the number for the kit right off. I am sure someone will jump in that has it.

NAPA doesn't show this kit in its books. I did my front axle not to long ago.

If you go to replace the upper king pin. You will need a 7/8's inch Allen wrench. To just change the bushings you do not need it.

I hope you have an air compressor and impacts. It makes it a lot easier.

While you are this far into it. Do the front axle U-Jonts also.

I would drop the carrier in the front axle and do the inner seals also. If you do decide to do the seals. Order them from the dealer. The ones from NAPA "Do Not" have the axle guide provisions built into them.

If you decide to do the inner seals. Hit me with a PM. I have a 2 inch bore brush you can use to clean the tubes out with.

Thanks I was just wondering. I was planning on just doing the lower bearings and upper bushings. My tires are wearing pretty good. I'll have to see what the king pins look like when I get into them.

I have a compressor and a garage full of tools.
