Posted a few months ago on my EGT guage going nuts on me. It's an autometer ultralight guage.

Thing just all of the sudden starts to wiggle and dance all over then will drop dead at the 6 o'clock position... then just pop back to normal. At first it was doing it on just the initial startup of the truck... I;d go somewhere and when I got back in/restarted the truck the guage would run fine. Now it's doing it frequently at random and not just with the first start of the day.

I've wired it power wise to the cig lighter, then directly to the battery and no dice. I talked with Andy at Genos and he suggested the ground may be the problem... so since then I've reground it every which way but loose to the dash, battery, and finally it;s own spot completely by itself... . and this thing is still fluttering like crazy.

I have no means to 'test' the probe/thermocouple and honestly wouldn;t know how to anyway... but I have undone/redone the t-couple connections a few times as well just to be sure.

Seems when it works, it works fine and appears to be accurate (I base this on the numbers from my previous truck).

Short of buying a new guage does anyone have any other ideas? I plan to talk with Genos again and see what they suggest but before biting the bullet I'm open for ideas.

My Isspro oil pressure gauge does the same thing. I've been able to damp it out using a 3-ft hose as an isolator at the sending unit. Obviously, this can't be done with a thermocouple. Is it possible that there's some electrical phenomenon with these new trucks that makes certain gauge types act funny? For example, if I'm wearing a heart monitor in the cab when the truck is running the readings I get from it are very strange... there's obviously some big RF interference going on.

I'm afraid I don't have any good suggestions except to say I think your gauge is just plain broken. Although I think Autometer makes an excellent gauge, you might try a different brand...

I'm almost to that point. What gets me though is that I;ve ran the same autometer guages for 3 other trucks. A set of 3 (EGT, boost, and trans temp) on my last '04... no trouble. And I;ve run an EGT for 2 friends with dodges... wired them all exactly the same and they all work fine (at least the last time I checked with my friends).

So I just completely rewired it this morning and ran to a different ground again... even used a different type of connector. I'll know this afternoon whether or not it worked. If it doesn't then I'm with you in that it must be the guage.

Just in the process of returning a brand new Autometer phantom EGT guage that was bad out of the box. Geno's was great they are sending me a new one with return mailer for bad guage-no questions asked.

Well it pooped on me again today. Ran fine for abour 150 miles and then started to act up again... this was after a complete re-wire... so it's a new guage for me. :(
