Wait to start light

56F this morn and no wait-to-start light, it worked last spring. What temp does this intake heater system start working?

Texas, if you ran the truck the evening before, I doubt it got cold enough the night before. I think it kicks in at 59, but with the amount of iron in the motor it will take several hours to totally cool down to ambient temps.



I park outside and mine has only kicked in once so far in the morning, but it has been very warm in my part of the Far North lately (94F here yesterday) so no need for no stinkin' grid heater yet

You can also check the IAT. Some have noted IAT readings that were out of spec. The IAT is behind the map sensor (way back on the intake manifold) and the specs are:



32*F 30k to 36k ohms

77*F 9k to 11k ohms

122*F 3k to 4k ohms

167 1350 to 1500 ohms

212 600 to 675 ohms



The IAT responds very quickly so make sure you have a stable temp when taking readings.

The wait to start light always comes on in my 99. Always for about 2-3 seconds and then goes out. It goes out when the lift pump stops running. New ones different?

I guess newer trucks are different. Mine comes on all summer long for a few seconds until lift pumps stops and pressure drops. It certainly does not get cold here all summer. During the winter the wait to start light will stay on longer.

ditto bob's remarks. my phoenix resident 98. 5 has always had the wait to start light come on even in the rather warm desert summer heat.

I have a 2001 HO and I believe the manual says the wait to start light will come on anytime the intake manifold temp is less than 66F. Mine comes on all the time for a few seconds, as if just to ensure the bulb is functioning. Cold mornings it will stay on a little longer.

I believe the Wait to Start light will come on as part of the warning lamp test cycle anytime you turn on the key on my 2002. It goes out in a couple of seconds along with the ABS, check engine and other lamps. Given the temperatures here in South Texas, I don't believe the grid heater has ever actually switched on since the interior lights have never dimmed during the time the Wait to Start light was illuminated.
