sometimes my wait to start light does not come on when first activateing the key to the on position, however the truck will start. Then sometimes when driving along and after the engine is warmed up the wait to start light will come on. I have done some radio work in the area of the info center wireing could this possibly loosen a wire ? or should I be looking for another solution? This problem arises when temps are quiet high above the normal ambient temp range needed for the intake air heaters to activate. This is happening on a 89 reg cab auto stock 120k. new to the forum I have been reading it for about a year and just now trying to post . im not a computer guy but maybe that will change. This a great org. and site would appreciate any help or suggestions tks.

It may be possible that you have loosened a connection on the back of the info center pad. . but I'd be more suspicious of the sender/connector under the hood. It tells the light when to come on/off etc... .

Pull and clean the connector(s).

Did this only start since you did radio/wiring work??

wait to start

thanks for the reply Bob, This problem started after the radio work. I and the vehicle are seperated by 2k miles at present but will probably be reunited the latter part of oct. I will certinally check the areas you have suggested, and i,ll probably find the problem. I see that my post looks a little different and i'm working on that also. It appears my profile didn't make it to the right area oh well i'll try again next time. I've been off the computer trying to avoid the degenerates who sent the worm. thanks again for the reply. Is this site great or what.

I would check the dash grounds. They are in the same area that you were doing the radio work in. You could have loosened them up by mistake.

On my 93 they are located behind the the panel that holds the cargo light switch and the OD switch. There are three wires going to one screw in the metal support for the dash.

Philip thanks for the suggestion, I will ck all the grounds and maybe run another new one or two just to be safe. I have already replaced the main ground from bat. to block however the truck is getting some age on it and i'm sure corrosion is working into many connections. The truck is in Huntsville Ala. and as you are probably are aware it's downright humid there. I will probably see the truck again in late Oct.

The battery lead to the block is not the one to worry about. The smaller wire to the body is the one to check real close. It is screwed into the raditor support. Dodge also left the paint under the terminal. So unscrew the terminal and sand the raditor support to bare metal. Then reattach the terminal.

If you want a better ground. Run a large gauge wire from the engine block to the frame. This will provide a larger path to ground. But it can also lead to radio interference from the alt or other engine mounted devices.

The dash grounds most likely could use the same sanding that the raditor support wire needs to.

Oh yeah, I'M aware:rolleyes:

PM me when you get back to Huntsville if you need a hand. I aren't 2 smart, but I'll try to help;)

Hi, Jim Durham, I tried to locate you in May when I was in Huntsville useing the conventional means, no luck but finally it's possible since I just discovered how to stumble arround this site. there is much to be said for inductive learning but for some of us it takes soooo long. Thanks for the tip and I may be there sooner than I first planed. Anyway I will contact you when I arrive just to say hello and meet a fellow TDR member, and If I need help that too would be a welcome. I'm in the process of trying to help a friend and neighbor as well as a tdr member to solve a shifting 3rd to 4th roaming problem now I've encouraged him to go to our site and check the files the answer is there. I have a shop manuel and I let him read the section this A. M. I also invited him over for a lesson useing the site. I'll get this guy hooked yet. I want to thank everyone for their suggestions they are appreciated.
