I'm guilty of the wait to start gassers too. Every time I get in the wifes jeep I turn the key on and go about buckling up and adjusting the seat, she just looks at me strange.
Yeah, I also find myself waiting for the EGT'S to cool down in my wife's gasser. She always says come on let's go!!!
Actually thats a good practice regardless of the engine, SI or CI. The reason to let the engine cool is to give the engine internals time to normalize. SI engines have the same issues as CI engines.
Many people think you should wait for exhaust gas cooldown to protect the turbo. The turbo is a small player in the total picture. Engine internals are just if not more important!!
