I understand it is recommended not to use syntethic motor oil for at least 10K miles... what about the transmission fluid? Do you need to wait also?

for the non-engine moving parts,(transmission, transfer case, axles, any exotic drives that the more creative BOMBers have attached)---last i heard the only real waiting period is how quick you can get the dinosaurs out and the lab stuff in... . happy clattering--rich

Scooby--I'd let everything "seat", "wear-in" etc, before switching to synthetics. Engine should have at least 20K miles, and I don't see a problem with the transmission going to that mileage as well. 20K miles is "minimum" miles, so all the moving parts inside the engine, trans, axle assys etc, "wear in" and "mate" to one another. Another term is "break in period". You could opt for higher mileage than 20K. Ron

You can switch to synthetic ATF as soon as you want to. I believe I switched to the Red Line synthetic ATF at around 6k-7k mi. when adding my Mag-Hytec trans. pan.

When The PowerShop performed my transmission enhancements in April (about 32k) the owner and his lead mechanic both stated they had NEVER seen a cleaner transmission (other than new). They even asked if DC had replaced the transmission with a new one under warranty. Ya gotta love that! #ad

Thanks for the replies.

By the way, the service manual has a few auto trannies in there, but doesn't explain which transmission is used for which application (why in the heck it doesn't - I have no idea). Do us AUTO guys have the 42RE or the 46/47RE and what is the difference?
